Self development experience

I work an organisation that offer a volunteering opportunity to youth between the ages 18 and 25 to volunteer in different programs, currently we have three programs. I work as an implementing agents liaison officer for the Year Beyond program. my job is to hold, mentor and support the volunteers that are place in different organisations that implement the program in schools. i asses their attendance registers and do payments of their allowance. i also keep communication with the facilitators and coordinators of the program to have a standard program through out the organisations. As much as I love the work I am currently doing, I would like to grow into the chemistry industry as I have studied analytical chemistry, and i am looking forward to apply, implement and spread the skills and ethics I learnt from AVA.

Great netorking

Working at AVA is a great everyday learning opportunity. Helping and assisting the youth. A basic day will start BY checking in if volunteers are at their placements. Checking up on businesses, arranging and scheduling meetings . Preparing reflection sessions and also facilitating these sessions.Basic admin ,sending emails to businesses and recruit new volunteers if and when needed Working with a variety of SMME's has opened me to see my full potential. I am more empathetic and open to new ideas. Most challenging aspects will be, keeping the volunteers motivated to stay on the program and getting new businesses on board.

Cons: No benefits and long term empoyment

GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE

We were expected to be at the schools at 08:00 am Monday to Friday till 14:00 .Wednesday & Thursday we left at the school at 12:00 to get to the office for self development .Our working relationship was great , we worked pretty well together, yes we had ups & down but we managed to fix all of that.I have learnt the importance of team work & being able to put yourself in other peoples shoes. I enjoyed working with the kids . The teachers were very difficult to work with because they thought that we were at the schools to take their jobs.

Pros: We always had progression weeks at AVA & that has helped in terms of our careers
Cons: we started at school at 08:00 - 14:00
