Electrical technologist

Please be informed that I am currently employed as an Electrical Technologist at AECOM (Africa), a global multi-disciplinary consulting firm in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operations and Maintenance industry. My credentials include a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from Vaal University of Technology. I am registered as a Candidate Technician with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), registration no. 201520271. My plan is to achieve MBA within the next coming years. I should like to think that I am a very dedicated and hard working person. My work experience thus far has afforded me the ability to work under extreme pressure and mental capacity to approach and solve any problems confidently and successfully.

Pros: k under extreme pressure and mental capacity to approach and solve any problems confidently and successfully. The client interaction that I am exposed to has developed my soft skills further. Another advantage of my work experience has been the exposure to project work, both individually and in groups. This has instilled qualities such as inter-personal rapport, good people skills, project and time management and the ability to work in a team to achieve the ultimate goal. I am, therefore, confident that I will be able to face and overcome any career challenges that may require these skills. I am a team player, am self-motivated and have excellent inter-personal communication skills
Cons: I thank you and look forward to a favourable consideration of my application. Should I be successful in my application, I can assure you of my full support and unwavering commitment in any endeavour I may be called upon to undertake

Project Planning. Certified in Project Management, with 19yrs Maintenance and Project Planning

Daily Duties and Responsibilities: Create, review, analyse, monitor and report progress of updated progress schedules and forecasts, resource histograms and critical production outputs for regular reporting. Earned Value Management I have learned much with regards to Architecture, Design and Engineering processes that is a world apart from the normal construction performance planning and coordination. I mostly enjoy the working environment and colleagues, it's a highly competent and challenging environment with extremely tight deadlines. Achieving deliverable on time and on budget, Design and Engineering is an extremely complex process that needs to be adhered to and creates a great challenge to get all disciplines aligned to deliver on time with approved standards.

Pros: Highly qualified and professional team
Cons: Contract

Working at AECOM

What an interesting adventure this has been! Initially hired as an IT Assistant, then IT Administrator and now IT Procurement and Asset Coordinator. I have learnt to be emotionally intelligent - it comes with working for a Multinational Company. My job is very demanding , with crucial deliverables, so I have to sharp at all times! But working with my current has been a dream.

Pros: Great working environment
Cons: Growth is very limited - and perks not so good.

Great growing potential

I’m currently unemployed. Having worked for aecom was a fortunate as i have grow trumendously in years. I was doing all the necessary paper work to support the office as i was based on site. Keep the records of all progress starting with the building works. Leasing with the site agents then all foreman's. I had to keep up with the bill of quantities in terms of all the contractual standards. Attend site meetings regularly sign houses and hand them over and do visitation till retention period is done with. Making sure all paper works is sent to the higher authority(CoCT).

Excellent learrning

I work in a very dynamic environment, a construction site in Mpumalanga on a power station. I perform quality assurance and design supervision duties on concrete and structural structures. I work with contractors to ensure the implementation of issued Contractors Information requests(CIRs) and Non-conformance reports (NCRs).I perform daily quality inspection reports and report the findings in daily diaries, construction audit notifications (CAN), weekly reports and monthly reports. I review data packs on a daily basis on the structures completed and assist the resident PR Eng. with the issuing of stability certificates and certificates of completion. I arrived on the site during my in-service training, having not worked on a construcution site before, the environment allowed me to grow and encouraged more reading on issues encountered and I found it made my job easier.

Pros: Great environment for growth
Cons: Long travelling hours

Every new job comes with its own advantages. For me...learning and communication are the 2 important factors for me on a daily basis. The knowledge gained by one and experience gained with interaction from the diverse work force has to be admired

Pros: Climb the corporate ladder

Opportunities in Project & Programme Management

Project Management Accountant broadens the scope of finance into assisting Project Managers and Management in decision making. Financial Ratio, Trend Analysis. It links Finance to Technical Engineering units. Drafting of Proposals, Bids, Financial Planning. There is daily interaction with Finance as well as engineering units. Opportunity in Training PM in accounting standards and financial reporting. I have leant that payment terms to contractors must be applied strictly otherwise you can lose in terms of collections vs payments and interest. I have also learnt to incorporate rework and delays when building a project so you earn decent profits. Challenges are misunderstanding between Finance vs Engineering KPI clash, Utilization of resources against profitability of projects are also a challenge

Pros: Accounting, Compliance and Finance
Cons: Dealing with Contractors & Engimeerss, sticking to Payment Terms

High accountability for results. Challenging to meet expected margins.

Work days cover strategy development, business development, staff utilization, human relations, mentoring, guidance, motivation, reporting, and financial accountability and system compliance on quality and performance. Staff relations are challenging in tough business environment, but still very good in general. I have learnt that the current business environment is tough and that good leadership is needed to guide us through. What I most enjoy is developing a strategy for success by focusing on good prospects for the future Having no control of the current market and keeping staff motivated is very tough

Pros: Good and stable company globally
Cons: Tough local conditions in infrastructure currently
