Review of my working experience at Aveng Africa 2011-2016
Even though I had not previously worked with Oracle I was given an opportunity to both improve the way the BI environment was structured and rolled out into business based on my previous experience, passion and drive. I can engage at all levels which has helped us in obtaining buy-in and trust from the business. I naturally took on a leadership role quickly and was promoted to Lead within 18 months. I love working with a team of diverse people and it is important to allow people to take responsibility and accountability in order for them to grow and be creative. We had a fabulous and effective team that delivered some great solutions. This is a win-win situation for the business and the team. I enjoy most bringing business and BI/IT together to deliver the best solution and continuously improve the way business work. The team engages better with business and develops with a business hat rather than a technical hat. Most challenging is a lack of resources due to retrenchments.
Pros: Given the ability to 'lead' and drive change within the business. They appreciate my past experience and abilities which has shown in improvements within the business.
Cons: Cannot grow any further and I am wanting to relocate back to Cape Town.

Extremely busy yet challenging constantly learning new skills eg. supervisor and office management
AA typical work day was very long with many challenges from both co workers and management yet I loved working with other people and learning different cultures and methods of operation. I gained some supervisor skills along the way and learnt more about office management
Pros: great opportunity for me to learn about the construction industry coming from an architectural firm/ background
Cons: long distance to travel
