Excellent
Currently working as HR Officer within the construction industry. A typical day includes meetings, giving guidance and advise to senior management and operational staff on all HR generalist matters. I love and enjoy interacting with people and is definitely a people's person. I have learnt to address matters and queries as soon as possible and not to allow the workload to pile up. Twice in my career have started a HR department for scratch and have been able to implement the overall HR Generalist function Maintaining cost and retaining staff has always been a challenging aspect of the job. However I have been able to perfect the skill of balancing the importance of managing a constrained budget with also delivering the necessary functions and to ensure that the strategic planning is achieved.
Pros: Enjoy the exposure and experience gained within the construction industry
Cons: Long working hours

Horrible
Micromanaging is a problem in the company No respect from co workers what i dislike most is that the ideas shared always have to be approved by the CEO what i enjoy most is nothing at the moment What i have learnt is that if you do not have the buy in of the manager on day 1 you will never get it and have to fight for approvals for the rest of your time at the company.
Pros: might grow in the ext two years financially
Cons: they do not disclose on time and keep everything behind closed doors

They under pay given the job description
aa typical day is 9 hours sometimes due to activities on site it can go to 11 hours, relationship with co workers is good as opposed to management whom i feel do not take into consideration the needs of their emloyees, ive been with the company 4 years as a civil engineer but no training has been provided no courses attended no assistance to register as a professional i enjoy the process of seeing a design materialised from as little as laying asphalt to priming the road. the most challenging is having to work as both the site agent, quality assurance officer and the subcontractor coordinator. and also doing things such as measuring quantities on site which is mostly work given to students
Pros: there is a lot to learn esp in people management
Cons: less pay for engineers
