Central University of Technology Reviews

It's a real good working set up.

I truly enjoyed working at Central University of Technology, it was unfortunate that it was just a year contract. A typical day was productive hence each day one would always learn a thing or two. I assisted student due to CV clinic, maintained a database daily receiving CV's of graduates and working as a middle man between graduates and companies, therefore as companies requested certain graduates I would then send C V's of students. I handled the telephone and setting appointments in the reception area. My relationship with co-workers was very positive as we always worked as a team. I learnt a lot in the basic administration work, functioning of office machines. The most challenging aspect of the job was working under pressure but I got used to it as time went and now is one of my strongest aspects.

Pros: Learn new things on a daily basis
Cons: Nothing that I know of.

My day in varcity

basically i try to find rental application forms to be paid for that day, they may come from students who have submitted them a while back but are yet to be paid. then the landlord will send an email to the team leader and rather of him doing them he will pass them to me, then i find the journal or the actual form that has to be paid and send it to my boss either as a copy or as a scan document which he will submit ti the landlord saying either have paid for the form or we are yet to pay for it and sorry for the inconvenience...then i make copies for transport top ups i must also make the sum for each form of how much was paid and how much it will e paid and stamp each copy. then i print statement financial statement for students while i do inquiries they could range from a student wanting to know their balance or how does nsfas work or are they approved by nsfas or their choice in bursary.

Pros: the people i get to meet every day...the students they funny
Cons: the boss micro-manages me,

Excellent career start

Working at an institutional facility is as typical as attending classes regularly as scheduled, this also includes a proper punctuation and good attendance because you cannot just be absent when it is your job to be in class and assist students. business is conducted formally and my supervisor whhom is the subject head lecturer is a very understanding and cooperative person.

Pros: Boosts academic confidence
Cons: No promotion

A relaunch

I am in a very supportive and exciting work environment. The team is small but it is quite collaborative. And there is opportunity to further my studies. This job came after I had been jobless for a little over a month and I continue to learn and be exposed to innovative technology.

Pros: Great environment for further training and development.
Cons: low growth opportunity for me within the organisation. small structure.

Energetic individual who is always eager to learn and explore on new challenges and opportunities

I worked for a very busy institution on a daily basis which gave me an opportunity to exercise my power to delegate at all costs. i had a very excellent relationship with my seniors as well as the clients that visits at our offices. i have learnt a lot on aspects such as personal growth and professionalism. i enjoyed helping visiting clients and also those that are phone call away from our organisation, always being of a valuable assistant to all of them at all cost...

Pros: Bigger opportunities are present as you go further with your studies
Cons: promotions seems to be scarce as everybody seems to be competing for few available positions

Learning curve

Working at CUT is just like any other job, I do what is expected of me which is deliver lectures, set and Mark tests. We work well with other full time staff that we share the same module. I enjoy lecturing because I am bringing back to the community or contributing to the future of South Africa by reaching those students Maths. The most challenging part of being a lecture is students who do not attend lectures, that has bad impact on their academic record and tmit affects their results. One greater challenge of being a part time lecture is the issue of "get paid as you work". We get paid on hourly rate,so it depends on how many modules would be allocated to you and how many hours you would accumulate in that month,So it becomes disadvantageous if you are located maybe 1 module. Another challenge is that there are months where I don't get paid because as I said I am part time and I get paid on amount of hours I had contact with students,so during the holidays and varsity breaks I do not get paid.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning and being Academia
Cons: Less hours,less money

Working at the Central University Of Technology as been a great opportunity for me. I have got to learn new skills, every day at work for me was a challenge and an opportunity to learn more and also it has truly helped advance my communication and people skills. My co-workers were simply amazing and kept giving me advice on future plans and how to hold myself as a professional. I have learnt to be more responsible and the importance of ethical behavior.

Pros: Great working experience, and I had enough time too focus on my studies.
Cons: There are not many opportunities for a promotion or even a permanent post.

It is great way to begin in Academia.

The executives give a lot of support to subordinates. This proves to be conducive also to the work they do. This was an experience full of challenges but rewarding in skills building. However, I am dying to make a change to corporate.

Pros: Great Support for Beginners
Cons: Payments are months late
