College of Cape Town Reviews

I am a hard worker and a very good listener.

Working at the College has been the most challenging in terms of my career change. I deal with students and from 3 of our Campuses that offer Electrical engineering. It means I had to build relationships with some of my colleagues from these Campuses. In 6 months of my employment I got recognition of being moved from administration to Projects because of the relationship I have with my colleagues and the hard work I put in in wanting to know everything about the college. I have learnt to deal with different kinds of people even from different countries as we accept a lot of Foreign students. I enjoy helping tem and I become so happy when I produce good results out of my customer service. Some people will just come and ask for me because I go all out to ensure end results are what they were looking for. The most challenging aspect of my job is to pay attention to small details as a little mistake that you can do can cost damage to someone's career because you missed something.

Pros: Good opportunity to grow
Cons: Contract work

Good learning curve

On a day to day basis I run the office. I have a huge workload as I am the only admin lady in the office. I meet my deadline as I plan my work/duties according deadlines and would also do extra. I am a peoples person so I get along with people. I am able to work in a group or alone. Being fresh in the industry I have leant alot and always make room for improvement. Also have an open mind, I do listen to other people's ideas and opinions. I work mostly with tenders so I find it challenging when I have just received a tender that has to be submitted 2 or 3 days after I have just received it as I plan my work/duties. I like to seek advice because I believe in always learning and improvement.

Pros: Good opportunity
Cons: Long working hours

Challanging work environment, excellent learning curve

I manage a team of 17 staff members, both academic and support staff. The Hospitality Programme enrolls 300 students per semester, across NCV and Report 191. There are nine simulation environments (practical kitchens, restaurant, store room, computer labs etc) managed by myself. I oversee all operations pertaining to the Hospitality Programme, both academic and non academic.

Pros: Wonderful opportunity to give back, I love seeing students graduate and go on to make a success
Cons: Students often come from very challangeing environments
