Typical work day - On a typical work day I design plastic injection moulds using CAD software such as Solidworks. - Prepare quotes and invoice customers. - Order materials and components that will be used to manufacture the moulds. - Receive suppliers statements and handing them to the owner. - Assist in scheduling and prioritizing the manufacturing line. Relationships - Good working relationship with all of the co-workers. Some are personal friends. What I've learnt: - I've learnt that it's important to work together with other employees and help them in their tasks. This not only builds a good relationships but helps with the morale of the employees. - Double check the work you've done. Don't rush and submit due to pressure. What I enjoy most: - I enjoy working together with my co-workers and get their ideas to help improve their work. Most challenging: - The most challenging work is when a mould has to be designed and the model is not well designed by the client.

Good learning experience of the trade

Standard working hours with overtime. Steady inlfow of new projects. Various tools and machinery at my disposal. At work we control ourselves in terms of the jobs to be done depending on the dates of delivery. Repair work is usually same day service which sometimes is difficult if parts are to be replaced or outsourced. New projects and internal jobs take precedence and their tracking and progress is fast as they are given top priority. Having juniors /trainees helps with the odd quick jobs whether new or repair. Communication of deadlines is a challenge and it ultimately affects planning and execution of tasks but we get by eventually just like other workplaces with few heated arguments.

Pros: Free reign environment... Set and work without supervision.
Cons: Lack of communication and planning.
