Excellent learning opportunities and career improvements

at my department typical working day is dealing with husbandry,research and administrative issues around the facility the colleagues at the work place are supportive and understanding at all times. the opportunity to work for the department has sharpened my communication skills both written and verbal,presentation,assertiveness or positive attitude towards my work everyday,my computer skills have remarkably improved and mostly how i conduct research is the most highlight for the job.i enjoyed mostly career exhibition where i was given the opportunity to teach and exchange knowledge of the aquaculture industry with students from across the country,as well as spawning periods in the aquarium which were most challenging but yet enjoyable despite the long working hours(at night).

Pros: learning new tactics and getting to visit other country in order to explore new husbandry methods and aquaculture practices
Cons: working long hours with cold water

Valuable experience gained

My directorate is Facilities Management. There are four Sub-Directorates and I'm the section head of Facilities and Projects. I'm responsible for the maintenance and projects in our facilities at Head Office(that includes all our regions in different provinces). We have a help desk system where all the calls are logged and a team of Building Caretakers,Tradesman and Groundsman to attend to the logged calls. I work intensively with the Department of Public Works since they are the custodians of all the government buildings and my Department is just a client department. I have a proper working relationship with my subordinates and my principals. I have to make sure that the buildings are habitable and conducive to the occupants at all times. It gives me satisfaction when problems are resolved and my customers are happy. The challenges we have in the government is the red tape which delays everything.

Pros: I have a large portfolio and I enjoy managing it
Cons: Delays in decision making and that affects my work negatively.

Good interpersonal skill

i enjoy and appreciate team dynamics and interaction as well as working independently. i am natural extrovert who enjoys meeting new people and sharing ideas i put extra effort and always willing to work long hours when needed i have learnt how to conduct yourself as a public servants, how to interact with people in different levels. the most challenging as Admin clerk is to try to convince someone who do not understand your duties.

Pros: not working on weekends and public holidays
Cons: long working hours

Excellent learning curve

Excellent support structure in terms of growth as a technician both experience wise and education wise.The culture of the company, they support their staff in every way possible co-employees are supportive to new recruits, we worked as a team most of the time even though calls are assigned individually.
