A wonderful opportunity to learn, to diversify, and tangle different dynamics
Working in my company is about serving. you need to humble yourself and work as if there is no tomorrow since is an environment that serve the poor. You also have to have business acumen since you deal with service providers. You need to say the right things when you have a claim that is overdue or is shortpaid.Your communication has to be of standard, from basic one you can address an 80 year old, as well as a formal one communicating to a Company Executive. I learned to deal with financial claims, to compile reports- financial and non financial. I learned to manage Human Capital areas such as leave, employee wellness programe, training, and I also serve in a Bursary Committee, Skills Development, as well as Employment Equity. I also assist in Project Management where I worked as a Project Manager for a year on assistive basis, and an experience I cherish.
Pros: New ventures and an opportunity for personal growth
Cons: Working long hours, I believe there is a problem in the organisation. Prescribed hours should be used effectively to achieve objectives.

Working at the department of Human Settlements
Working within this department has developed me on both intellectual and emotional level. Having to serve the public and assisting them to have a roof over their heads in one of highlights of my job. Visiting different households has opened my eyes to the dire circumstances some of our people live under. One was too comfortable having the daily basics at one's disposal without considering how others struggle to even put bread on the table. My work has built me as a person, I've also managed people with vast personalities. Managing adults, some being older than you was a bit of a challenge. My interpersonal skills have also improved drastically. If I were to recommend this department to anyone, I'd do it any day. I'm who I am because of my experiences at work. Where I spend most of my time.
Pros: Providing people with low cost housing
Cons: Emotional engagements with people's challenges

Review of the current position and organisation
-Working for the provincial department puts one at the monitoring side of things instead of the actual getting down and dirty, this can be tiresome at times. -my relationship with the collegues is a pleasant one. -i have learnt to interact with different organisations such as municipalities and other entities of the state such as HDA, NHBRC (to name a few). -i enjoy working with different stakeholders and developing policies that aim to solve serious project management issues, making way for clean and speedy implementation and delivery. -i work in the research an policy development spetrum, this can be challenging because a huge amount of work depends on getting feedback and continously engaging with stakeholders. mostly stakeholders just dont respond on issues when you ask them to, this delays your targets and makes you seem as though you arent pushing the work hard enough.
Pros: interacting with different organisations such as municipalities and other entities of the state such as HDA, NHBRC (to name a few).
Cons: provincial department puts one at the monitoring side of things instead of the actual getting down and dirty, this can be tiresome at times.

Good Learning Experience
A typical day at the office included, attending steering committee meetings throughout that district of Lejweleputswa. Compiling progress reports and ensuring that all site engineers report back progress on sites. I believe had an excellent working relationship with my co-workers. I have learnt the importance of ensuring that someone has a roof over their can be gratifying and fulfilling. The most challenging parts of the job was having to deal with the dissatisfaction of stakeholders
Pros: financial stability
Cons: politics and long working hours

Learning curve
Department of Human Settlements is a department that strives in ensuring that there shall be houses, security and comfort for all. I joined the Department last year moving from a Corporate Services environment to the Supply Chain Section. This transition was not easy as I had to familiarize myself with the new prescripts assigned to the Component; however, everyday I learn new things. With the little interaction I have with the component staff, I do believe we share a good interrelations and what I enjoy the most is that the staff composition consists of young vibrant ladies and gents who are still aspiring for greater prospects, therefore we motivate each other. Challenging aspect will be dealing with service providers who do not understand the bidding and awarding process as well as internal staff who do not understand the process of procurement.
Pros: Still to be identified
Cons: None
