The Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre Complex is an events center complex located in the city centre of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal , South Africa. Opened by former president, Nelson Mandela in 1997, the Durban ICC was South Africa’s first International Convention Centre and has played a pioneering role in attracting international events to our shores since its inception. The complex is composed of: an arena, hotel, convention and exhibition centre. The venue has hosted the International AIDS Conference in 2000 and again in July 2016, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 1999 , and the Non-Aligned Movement in 2004. It hosted the preliminary draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Final Draw for 2013 African Cup of Nations , and also hosted the COP17 meeting in 2011.

Good Experience

Durban ICC is the best Exhibition company in the country, I deal with clients and customers from overseas. It is a very big company, it can host about 10 events on the same time and place, you can imagine how many employees work there. Me and my co-workers work very good together because our line of work requires Team work. It is also a great experience to be serving celebrities from all over the world. The worst part is that I only work part time, once a week. The most challenging aspect of the job is that the place is very big so if you had to go get something, say like glasses and stuff you will have to go up and down, walking stairs, lifting heavy glasses as the job requires a physical fit person.

ICC is a great company and they have given me the growth

Durban ICC is an internal convention centre based in Durban mad has helped me grow in a huge way as I came in here whilst I was fresh from college and had no experience but they took me I'm and showed me everything I needed and they also have helped to understand the business world and the working environment

Learning experience

My current job is challenging, we meet different people with different mind set. But I need to be able to accommodate them all irrespective of their differences. I work under a lot of pressure sometimes. But we always deliver no matter what.

Growth

22000, 14000, 9001 AND 18000 ) run smoothly by doing internal auditing and working with external audits to ensure that all I supervise coordinators who run Exhibitions , Conferences , Corporate events , Private parties etc and monitor +-200 flexi staff staffing cost . I am also part of the ISO committee that ensure that all our systems(ISO 22000, 14000, 9001 AND 18000 ) run smoothly by doing internal auditing and working with external audits to ensure that all the ISO certificates are retained .the ISO certificates are retained .

Excellent learning curve

check emails. do daily walkabouts of the building. send requisitions for upcoming events. send requisition for needed stuffing, service and back of house. supervise event build up call an check up on client prior the event. ensure smooth running of the live event. ensure proper breakdown is done after the event.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth because of many departments there is.
Cons: Long hours

Rewarding experience

It was a wonderful experience to work with the team at the Durban ICC. The culture is customer-focused and the team strives for world class levels of service excellence. I learned so much and really grew as a person working there. You get to see the best events, celebrities and high profile people from all over the world working there.

Excellent learning and skill

I have learnt and developed skills to suit the industry . Also have accomplished the revelant food safety qualification that's necessary within the purchasing sector. Suppliers of my choice are chosen based on food safety and traceability and meeting company requirements. Manage 2 junior buyers

Cons: No growth within company
