Eskom Transmission Reviews

Good training

The training is good for people who are willing to learn. Employees are friendly and willing to assist everytime. You get to learn about electricity from how it is generated up to the distribution to the customers, so interesting. As much as it is interesting , it us also dangerous so you need to make sure that you folliw the procedures and always ask the seniours if you don't understand

Pros: Good learning curve
Cons: Dangerous

Good learning experience

On a typical work day I and the senior technician would go to site to perform protection maintenance on different substations, well the relationship with fellow co-workers was good in a sense that as a trainee I was given the opportunity to perform maintenance under senior technician supervision and in the same process learn how the relay operate. I enjoyed completing the job of the date successfully and the most challenging aspects of the job was when the would not operate as per the settings.

Pros: Learn as much as you can
Cons: do not relax

Learnings

Rskom is a big organisation of riughly 20 000 employees... Typical day starts with day plan where you would have a team meeting or review of the orevious day... Thereafter you go out and do your outputs for the day Wr wirked as a team so it was more fulfilling and there was a lot of learning within the team members... I enjoyed interacting with the specialists and the different contractors on a daily basis..different experience daily

Pros: Ability to kearn as you get exposure in different engagements within the organisation
Cons: A lot of travelling within provinces and fatigemue would kick in but knowing the signs and how to deal with gatigue would come in handy...

Expirience- job spec

My duty as a junior electrician is to assist the seniors when doing any maintenance in the plant and getting orders from them. Breaker maintenance is an exciting work to as you have to check contacts if they are still according to manufactures specification. And we do resistant test and lubricate the joints on apparatus. We are getting along and we discuss every work and plan for it on time . I have learned a lot on breaker and plant maintenance as a whole and how to react when working under pressure or emergency occur. I enjoy doing fault finding as I have to look for different angles , and the most challenging work is when you are alone at night trying to figure something out and you do not get it right .

Pros: Hard work pays
Cons: You can still get education while still working
