A typical day at work

We work 12hour shfts . we would start the day with a shift safety meeting . at the meeting we would discuss the daily activities ahead and I would put the work out to every specific person . I would tell them what to do and what is expected from them . I would go through the quality sheets and review the previous shifts quality sheets . I would then attend a managers meeting where we discuss the previous days statistics and the plans for the new day . I will then do the timekeeping and discuss problems with the HR . I would then walk around the production area and monitor the people and the qualitys . I would see to it that the production targets are reached and at the end of the day give shift to the next supervisor .

Pros: opportunity for a successful candidate to reach the top
Cons: Long hours , stresfull road to work

Back to basics

I am responsible for two sites (Palesa Coal & Mbali Coal). I am responsible for maintenance schedule, yearly budgets, performance reports (daily, weekly & monthly) Write scope for buyer and follow up on purchase order delivery. Supervise administrative/engineering clerks. Responsible for CMMS

Pros: Opportunity to have a hands on experience

Hard work pays off

We start the day by having a production safety meeting . We disccuss the day and production targets as well as safety aspects and personal things that bother the shift people . I would go to the control room from there and check up on qualitys of our product . After every person knows what to do and what is expected from them , I would go to the managers meeting . There we will get our instructions and discuss the previous day's pro's and cons . I will then do the time keeping and discuss problems with the HR . I would check up on the production at intervals during the day and attend to problems that may arise . at the end of the day I would give a proper shift hand over to the next person and go home .

Pros: every day something new
Cons: long distance traveling to work on a horrible road .

Not a lot for me to learn and no where to go. everyday same as every day.

From clocking in to clocking out, doing maintanance on machinery. Good relationship with co workers. Havent learned a lot because I have been in this industry for many years. Not a lot that us enjoyable.. most challenging on my current job is to try and understsn co workers way of doing things.

Pros: no chance of promotion
Cons: very long hard hours, lot of overtime, and standby weeks
