Excellent
An exciting environment for collaboration working with diverse teams. It is a regulatory authority responsible for 12 professional boards who in turn regulate more than 30 professions. What drives me on daily basis is the knowledge that one professional received guidance and that one member of the public is protected.
Pros: Job satisfaction knowing you are a public protector
Cons: Pressures exerted by stakeholders with diverse vested interest.

Great for learning
Working at this organisation has allowed me to grow and think outside the box. It has provided me with many challenges and taught me to work well under pressure. I have developed great interpersonal skills as well as media relations and contacts. I have learned how to take leadership on projects and successfully lead projects withing the organisation e.g. practitioner roadshows, symposiums as well as other internal events. I have developed excellent writing and editing skills through my work with internal and external publications. It has been challenging that i have dealt with alot of media enquiries and media briefings for the organisations. The most challenging part about the job is handling complaints from the public regarding unethical practises from health practitioners. Also, when dealing with the media has its challenges because one cannot get responses from the Legal practitioners as and when we require them.
Pros: Great for development
Cons: Not enough room for growth

A dynamic learning organization
Working at the HPCSA provides one with a sense of purpose and fulfillment knowing that what you do makes a difference in someone's life. This is so because the HPCSA's mandate is to protect the public and guide the health professions. My task is to enforce the ethical conduct amongst health practitioners by ensuring that they are aware of the ethical rules of conduct and that those who contravened them by violating the human rights of patients are disciplined. A typical working day entails giving direction to the investigators and prosecutors of complaints of unprofessional conduct and providing general legal advisory services (litigation management; contract vetting; legislative drafting etc)
Pros: There are opportunities for growth
Cons: Stakeholders with vested interested
