Ideals Reviews

Good Experimental training

As a sales casualty I do everything that I am asked to do, starting from cleaning, merchandising, advertising and managing stock. Working there gives me experience on working with different people, different attitudes and that prepares me to be always calm and be good with people. Co- workers at IDEALS are very welcoming to anyone who is willing to learn on the marketing industry and the working environment is professional. At IDEALS Company time management is crucial and that what I have learnt. Communication is the key to the every sphere, we communicate with customers and find out what do they want. What I enjoy the most is being the sales lady, advertising new stock and sale. The most challenging part is merchandising as it has to be done within a specific time and there is a lot to be done.

Pros: Great opportunity for experience
Cons: Small salary

Opportunity to be creative

I was promoted from a regional manager post to operations manager within a year. My previous experience with Edcon prepared me for this new job title. I now sit on the executive committee and I am involved in all decision making. I believe that the size of Ideals, my current company that so work at has given me the confidence and ability to use my work experience at Edcon and to make decisions. I am now looking for something new and exciting to further my career in operations management.

Pros: Free reign in trying out new ideas and processes
Cons: No room for growth

Ideals as a small retailer .

As a smaller 3rd generation family business , more is expected from me i.t.o the experience I bring to the table . Mondays are for trade meetings to review past weeks performance . Many of the other common meetings , like Strategy , reviews , post seasonal meetings will happen as per the merchandise timetable . Our customer base is predominantly the country's majority. Our product focus is SMART end product . I have a good relationship with my 2 buyers . My biggest learning is how differently our stores are compared to that of a the big corporate . eg . We have a big percentage of rural stores (high street) . The most challenging part of the job is the fact that we do not have state of the art systems .

Pros: Leaner management structures
Cons: One's portfolio is a lot wider eg.( Currently Planner of All footwear , Ladies Accessories and Schoolwear) than that of a planner in a corporate setup .

Working for ideals

Great learning experience let's you growth and reach the potential you need to be. Great bosses with a lots of potential to grow within the market. I have learnt a lot while working in the cellular department. I even learnt how to do buying of cellphone, being able to allocate it and plus plan sales for the department. I also learnt stuff in finance when dealing with accounts and suppliers.

Pros: Good learning and growth
Cons: Salary

Excellent learning curve

My relationship with co-workers is good, I learned good admin, good managing of staff and how to communicate professionally. I enjoyed having a good relationship with customers. When everyone is shifting their responsibility to you and also not getting enough support from your line manager.

Pros: Not a good place to work in
Cons: Unpaid over times

The perfect start to my journey

7- staff are amazing -helpful group of employees - good family atmosphere -salary opportunities poor -exposure to the entire retail field -the culture of the employees - most of the people are unorganized and it can tend to be a very challenging aspect, in trying to achieve goals and being as structured individual is very difficult around such. - we always made a plan to get the tasks done, we filled into areas which helped us to learn

Pros: Great learning experience
Cons: Growth opportunities

Really good chance to learn

I manage IR matters at stores, run emt training sessions for stores, with the ops team depending on the need. Run job adverts, update job descriptions, generate contracts. Discuss poor performance & probation with staff & their line managers. Advise ops & head office of Labour changes. Chat to payroll, health & safety officer around updates & remind them of necessary trainings to be done. Also work on the employment equity & skills for the company

Pros: Good training ground
Cons: Not flexible with hours

Excellent organizational development

My move from Ackermans SA was to get growth and share experience and capabilities. That's exactly what they gave me and managed to build my teamwork ability and completely enhance my work - life balance and built my life with understanding sales and staff dependence

Pros: Great team to work with
Cons: Lack of promotions
