An eye-opener

I edit story from 13 newspapers my company owns. Four hours into into the shift I then lay out the Daily News opinion page. It's important to communicate with my colleagues because as a sub-editor I need feedback on the pages and content editing that I do. Bouncing off ideas on things such as headlines and different page layouts is also important for me as a sub-editor. I have learnt that it is always important to let your colleagues critique your work so that you can keep growing in what you do as a journalist (sub-editor). I enjoy rewriting stories and suggesting to writers on how a story can be improved. Meeting deadlines is always important for the type of work I do. That becomes a challenge when we are short staffed. But I have learned that preparing myself before I come to work helps in saving time therefore meeting deadlines.

Pros: Working in the Daily News sub-editors' desk has armed with not only writing skills but with how the publishing world works
Cons: Meeting tight deadlines means that we always work under stress. Therefore it is important to have every team member on the ball.

My enthusiasm, stamina, determination and perseverance makes me just the right candidate for this position. I have a complete understanding of web and social media aspects of this job which is why my work is not limited to just paper. Moreover, I am able to work in a deadline driven environment and I bank highly on my ability to create copy based on events as they happen. My training and experience in this capacity has provided me with the ability to strategically develop written documents and monitor and cover multiple topics of interest which are sure to invoke interest. My own concentration on lifestyle and human interest stories makes for engaging copy and I always had passion for writing since I was very young. Excellent people skills and a great learning Curb

working in the media industry was a huge leap of change as the accounts department that I worked for was a cash accounts only and this worked on a weekly cycle which was far from the normal monthly accounts that i was trained and had experience in working with. This itself was a challenge and very hands on experience. there was NO room for error in capturing daily payments as time didnt permit dispute with stores and agents. there was also a cut off time for all cash agents to be entered and captured another big challenge on Time management my relationship with my co-workers was very proffessional and friendly. It was a demanding position and I put in long hours to complete my days task. Lunch break was the busiest so lunch was taken at my desk. This was the part I enjoyed since I like the challenge and not afraid to take on extra. Over all I enjoy what I do and make it work.

Pros: No growth option
Cons: work load increases with no benefits

Interesting learning experience. educated in the newspapers publication and distrubution.

I have learnt to do the accounts in different measures and also gained knowledge of distribution.Built relationships with people in various fields. Its a typical work day with everyday bringing a new learning experience. Most challenging aspects was dealing with difficult clients for payments and explaining the returns and credit procedure. I enjoyed the challenge as I take that as a new learning experience. I am a friendly and bubbly individual who adapts in any enviroment. I have learnt , people are different and can not be taken for face value but we still need to bite the bullet as everyone is facing a different challenge in their lives and bring it out differently. We must respect people no matter how they come across.

Pros: promotion given to workers with long service history and not on experience or knowledge so its a struggle to get a promotion.
Cons: the hours are great , depending on work load and time management deadlines to be met.

Good way to start my career

My typical work day is assisting in the Marketing Department across titles, calling winners for competitions, sorting out branding if there's an event and also I assist in the bridal competition on facebook so I receive entries via email and capture on the system & upload pictures on Facebook page. My relationship with my co-workers is very good because we are a team (a team of 8) and we work together, it is more like family. I've learnt how liaise with potential clients, doing trade exchanges and doing contracts. What i enjoy the most is working on events and also doing office work. The most challenging aspects of the job is having back to back events and needing to attend all of them.

Pros: Great platform to learn because I've been exposed in the marketing industry, events and media
Cons: Back to back events

A typical work day can be very challenging. There are deadlines to be met and it has to be adhered to otherwise it will impact negatively on other departments. I liase with all levels of people both in our organisation. I also deal with external companies and proprietors. I have learnt to be patient and tolerant. The challenges i face everyday and i love my job. The challenging aspects is when products do not arrive on time for distribution and we have to improvise.
