Being Part of a startup company

Day start with staff meeting where a project plan per delivery is looked at to see if we still on track in terms of deliveries and a plan going forward, high level meetings will follow this where the work flow is discussed in terms of whats coming and what is getting delivered at the soonest dates. Relationship with co-workers is more on the family level since i was one the managers appointed to establish Gauteng branch, I have learned people management and to work and deliver under tremendous pressure. a lot of our staff members are kinda new on the telecommunication fibre build business and having mentored 19 students and seeing them all get contracts from the company was priceless for me. I could say transferring information to the up and coming youngsters is more fulfilling. The most challenging is managing contractors and meeting delivery dates which will then translate into happy clients, However it is great to close a project.

Great in meeting clients targets

Chasing targets and making sure that clients are certified. The relationship is always excellent. I have learned that feedback is most important at all times. I enjoy construction business in general, However, completing and closing projects and imparting knowledge on newly recruited people.

Excellent learning programme, structured well and maintained positively

It is a neat company on a regular day i have to deal with queries from staff and sort that out , i'm in a office with only two HR Administrators. my relationship with my co workers is close i enjoy tea time most we have a lady coming in selling scones, who ever sees her first gets to shout out shes here. I have learnt that my position HR requires someone who is down to earth and who knows the importance of confidentiality, with salaries and what employees go through in their individual roles , what i enjoy the most is payroll i believe the counting and calculating,challenging aspects are industrial relations .

Cons: challenging staff who do not understand the regulations and policies

Safety is a way of life

safety is a detailed based job title . one can never overlook anything within the working enviroment ! i scrutinize everything and make sure even the smaller details are prioritized to ensure a safe working enviroment for all ! i also beleive that as a sheq officer one needs to practice good will and have a mindset based on knowing that everything possible wa put to place to create an enviroment that it safe for all workers which will increase employee morale and improve production

Activities (Work Highs)

Inter-departmental engagements Project progress reporting Project feedback External contractor and customer engagements Site surveys/visits Excellent work environment esp due to the people I interact with. Expanded my experience and knowledge of the Telco environment. i enjoy making a customer happy by providing excellent service within agreed timelines. Challenges are welcomed but vary on a day to day basis, which involves additional engagement to improve turn around times and delivery of services, this helps keep the energy flowing.

Being able to communicate with people effectively

my typical day at work is going out to the field collecting data then coming back and capturing it since i have worked in this position i have had a lot of experience interacting with different people the most difficult part about this job is that people are very reluctant to giving out info but with my great abilities of being able to communicate very well,having a great smile and being professional i have little challenges now.what i enjoy the most about this job is that i get to work with different people who have different opinions and ideas ,working as a team has been a huge learning curve for me.

Project Leader – From September 2016 Duties: Arrange and Plan Site Kickoff with 3rd party utilities. Managing of subcontractors and material BOQ per site. Monitoring progress and escalating issues to related Departments with solid feedback report. Quality Management and follow Client standards and procedures. Negotiate with property owners/land lord and insure legal procedures are followed. Performing site survey and update site documents. I have several years’ experience in trench work, storm water, sewer and manholes installations, hauling, floating, labeling of cables. Always enforcing Health and Safety Procedures at all times and submit daily and weekly reports to rollout manager.

Despite being retrenched at Link africa, many opportunities was opened up to me.

A typical working day Seeing to project updates Processing Fibre Orders Liaise with Contractors Processing invoices Relationship with co workers was good we were a good team, issues were always resolved, we never had bad vibes amongst employers. The most challenging aspect was month end , contractors invoices to be processed and getting the correct billing amounts from them, documents to be submitted on time so that our contactors can be paid on time.

Pros: being promoted, and getting your annual increase.
