I am currently employed at Metsimaholo local municipality from April 2015. I am the chief salary clerk that processes salaries on a monthly basis for over 1200 employees. My job is very challenging which I absolutely love. My typical working month consists of receiving and processing all salary inputs eg. Basic salary, overtime,leave pay, acting allowance, travel allowance, long service bonus ect. Running the payroll, processing and issuing payslips. Once the salary is paid, month end is processed paying and sending schedules to third parties such as PAYE, medical aid, provident funds, garnishees ect. Dealing with all salary and payment queries. Working closely with HR and all departments to ensure the correct information is provided. The most challenging of my position is working with employees who do not speak English, however I have learnt to assist and go the extra mile.

Excellent

Daily work -collecting samples for laboratory test -Dosing chemicals -Doing house keeping -Back washing filters -Desludging sedimentation tank The relationship with my coworkers was excellent. I have learnt how to communicate and work with one another, and also how to process raw water, which was something I was always asking my self,"how does water get purified". The part that I enjoy most, its a testing part. The most challenging part of the job was valve operation , especially the big once.

Growth opportunity

Working at Metsimaholo Local Municipality was one of the greatest challenges of my life. The institution is higly politicised and again local government is highly regulated. In this environment I really learnt how to be firm as a leader and give clear direction. I had to lead by example while ensuring that my subordinates were happy and they understood what is expected of them. Political environment is crucial to one's integrity. They say integrity is who you are when no one is watching. My integrity and work ethics were tested many times and I had to lead by example and not fall for easy temptations that come with that environment where tendering corruption is involved.

Pros: Great opportunity for serving the community and uplifting their living standards. It really is an honour
Cons: Political differences shift the focus from service delivery to infighting while the community suffers

Partial learning curve

Metsimaholo local municipality is a good public company for students to get work experiences but it has insufficient equipments. All employees are cooperating good as a team and individually if necessary. I have learnt to pay attention to my work and details partaining my job description. I enjoy wastewater treatment processes. My challenge is to detect diviations if incured during our operations

Pros: it inhence your knowledgeable and encouragement and growth of experiences ahead
Cons: long hours indeed

Good learning process

I am self-motivated and enjoy thrill of new challenges. I am able to work under pressure and still deliver quality work during stressful times. I believe I have a strong attention to detail and always deliver high quality work. I am loyal, dedicated and able to learn at a fast pace to ensure efficiency. Through my working experience i've learned that working with people requires lot of patience and humbleness. I've also learned not to judge people and to learn from them.

Cons: working in a small space with large group of people

Working in a team with my staff

my typical day at work: Downloading the bank statement in the morning....preparing the cash flow Linking the bank recon Approving of grn's and invoices approving payments on the bank preparing month end reports ensuring that the payoffice is operating smoothly follow up on outstanding insurance claims follow up on outstanding orders

Pros: my work is always up to date
Cons: the staff is sometimes not clued up

Great involvement in the strategic development of the department

Pros: Given great responsibility and opportunity in the running of Supply Chain Management
Cons: Takes longer to implement or approve any changes regarding policies and procurement procedures

Good working employment

I start at 8:00am in the morning, pack books, do statistic, bookkeeping. I had wonderful relationship with other employees as we worked as a team I was able to learn different jobs of different department at the Library. My work itself was enjoyable, meeting people of all nation. When we are few and had to fill in for other people
