Learning new environment hands on learning, three weeks training from colleaugue
working from 07:30 until 17:00 with 30 minute lunch break from Monday to Friday, weekends are on request and there is not overtime paid. Workers activities and responsibilities are intertwined and require the use of one making sure their work is done as if not it impacts on the chain. its a professional environment, colleagues are easy to work with and get along with, they assist when you ask them for help. I am still learning the different materials used as each site is different, there are overlaps but each environment has its own challenges and differences. some challenges are the different places we live and work, environments may be harsh, expensive, barren and isolated; at times dealing with political and social issues you are not aware of in that community.
Pros: exposure to communties, different people and their ways of working. Learning the vast contrasts of places within a few hundred kilimeters away and their lifestyles. performance bonus (QTI).
Cons: sporadic increment if at all, deduction of your annual leave days when the company closes and late release of dates the company will close. uncertainty of renewal of contracts, even thought the project may be for three years you are only given a year contract, at times there is not signing of a new one once work commences. no security, pension, medical aid or benefits or transport funds when moved to a new place mid month also you pay for your own accommodation irrespective when you are moved.
