Mpumalanga Department of Health Reviews

Excellent opportunity to grow professionally, develop my skills and knowledge of experience

Presently I have been working for the department for the past 22yrs,throughout my profession I have learnt to multi task, work under pressure. Team work has proven to be an excellent tool to combat absenteeism and insubordination. My best experience so far is being given an opportunity to be a leader /manager of a team that is highly skilled and capable of working towards the same goal. Being able to experience the success of the team with no legal implications throughout the years, have been fulfilling. I enjoy meeting my objectives despite having limited resources.

Pros: Great opportunity for new exposure considering my experience
Cons: Lack of human resources and poor infrastructure

Comprehensive learning experience

A typical work day starts with a department meeting, then later doing ward rounds with the MDT about patients as well as checking for referrals in the adults and children's inpatient wards. This is then followed by doing assessments and therapy on the new patients as well as following up on current patients. Screening for new patients is also included in this routine as well as screening neonatal patients. I also do clinic outreach to the clinics in our catchment area. Workers and colleagues are always willing to help and assist or provide clarity on uncertain cases. They encourage learning and provide a space for consultation and debriefing. I have learnt to try to fight against using the medical model as this is what most hospitals use to treat their patients. I have learnt to never forget that my focus is to use Occupation as a therapeutic tool for treatment.

Pros: Great work environment, great colleagues
Cons: Lack of resources

Personally developed in such a extend where I felt that I am now ready to take up a leading role.

Each day has its own specific target to be accomplished. Focus and commitment play a vital role in my job as a data capture. in order to execute my task successfully it very important that all necessary required resources are in place. I enjoy working with the team and most importantly is achieving the desired objectives. Challenges in my careers involves correcting human error and inconsistent availability of resources.the most challenging aspect in this job is accuracy.

Pros: Depend on the availability of vacant higher level post and the extend individual experience.
Cons: Sometimes it may require one to work extended hours in order to meet certain deadlines.

Excellent learning curve

It is very challenging to work in our facility because you will be doing different tasks in a day like working in meternity section at the same time you are supposed to work at general section den in the afternoon you are supposed to dispense medication. Our facility makes a worker to be exposed to different tasks and you aquire different skills. I am able to adapt quickly to different personal types with the coworkers which make it easier to work in teams.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Long working hours
