Learning hard work

Having worked for government, in financial administration and project management, for more than 13 years this job opportunity provided a platform to learn micro business and the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge of business management. After I completed my MBL in 2014 it was logical to move to private sector in order to gain pactical knowledge and experience of the business environment. A typical work day commences at 9am and ends at 9:30pm after having counted stock and cashing up end of day. Planning for the day occurs the previous day and includes marketing- and operations activities. Internal controls and security measures led to the resignation of 20% personnel during the first year of existence after taking over the shop form the previous owner. Although staff satisfaction and ultimately retention is the greatest challenge, it also provided me with insight into the lives of general workers and comprehension of their challenges.
