Excellent industry for learning but not good for advancing a career.
The construction industry is very demanding in physical, emotional and mental energy especially for people who are at the bottom of the organogram(site clerks). My typical day is very tiring because I handle a lot of tasks and issues some of which are irrelevant to me on a daily basis. I get joy when it is the weekend because I rest. It become a longer day when I have to deal with lazy mentors who spends most of their time delegating any task that looks ridiculously below their job title even when it appears on their job description. I have learnt a lot about office work. I can even multi task some of the things but it is the most energy consuming especially if you work on a big construction site where you have to walk from one building to the other. The most time consuming task is regarding construction drawings. Everything on my job description is enjoyable. I just don't enjoy this industry anymore.
Pros: Great learning environment for beginners. You get to see how some people behave in the workplace.
Cons: It will eventually become boring especially if you stuck on the same job title. There will come a point where you no longer learn anything new.
