Excellent job for a student

This company is a great place to work if you are a student. With flexi-hours you are able to work pretty much whenever or wherever you want as long as the work gets done. Students are normally required to complete 80 hours a month. Once you are no longer a student, the work becomes a little more tedious as you work a lot more hours but don't really see the reward. There is also very little opportunity for increases or promotions. This has been most challenging. The co-workers are really great. Every one is really friendly and there's a relaxed atmosphere in the office. Everyone is approachable for questions or even help. What I enjoy the most is the work environment. Every day there is a morning meeting to see how everyone is progressing. If you are struggling then the company will try its best to help you overcome the obstacle. I have learnt a lot about the academic publishing sector and a lot about how a textbook distributor operates in South Africa.

Pros: Great work for a student.
Cons: No opportunities for promotions.

Flexible working hours with great people but also late payments.

Sparrow Consulting primarily employees student to perform technical writing of books used by the South African Technical Schools. The compensation is not great but you are free do do the work when you want to leaving room for a lot of flexibility as long as you work at least 80 hours a week. The people there are great and I got along with everyone and even made new friends. My biggest problem/concern about the company is the delayed payments. Payments are supposed to be on the first day of the month but often is 1-2 weeks later.

Pros: Great culture and people.
Cons: Payments are almost never on time.

Cons: Not enough room for growth as an engineer.
