Special Investigating Unit Reviews

Challenging field

Our Company is not so big, we have branches in all 9 Provinces. I work in the Head Office. It is not easy to have a fruitfull relationship with some of my colleagues due to the nature of work I am doing. I represent the Employer in Labour matters, where employee are suing the employer, hence some take it personally. Other than that I have a great relationship with most of the employees in all levels. I have learnt in this job to be may discreet and high levels of integrity are important. I enjoy researching for every case we are faced with, and meeting new challenges. Most challenging aspect of my job is sitting opposite a collegue in the CCMA or Labour Court.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Isolation

Exellent

Special Investigating Unit is a law enforcement organisation that investigate fraud and corruption in government institutions. My jobs entails assisting work in clients and doing different admin work including taking minutes, bookings of boardroom and for meetings, managing diary of the manager, managing courier parcel and general administrative works. I regard myself as a professional somebody who get along with all people of different ethics. What i have learned is that i have to give my all in every task given to me in order to grow and have experience and to appreciate the work never forget the reason why i am employed.I have being given different task from different projects and for me is like learning something new everyday the experience is overwhelming something enjoy. They are challenges but i tried to overcome them but the most challenging part of the job will be when you convey the message to a person and that particular person forget to follow up on that note.

Pros: Great opportunities offered
Cons: Prioritizing the work

No professional growth

A typical working day is 07:30-16:00, with 30 minutes lunch and 2 tea breaks. This gives me rest in between my tasks that when I rest my body and mind, my performance and production is excellent. I love working, but there's no opportunity for growth in what I'm doing. I enjoy working with investigators in various projects. I work well with my co-workers, in a team or on my own. I have learnt a lot of Managerial skills between Manager and staff as a PA to my Manager (Regional Manager).

Pros: Academic/Studying opportunities & support
Cons: No opportunity for growth

I am paasionate about investigation

I am a person who communicate well with people of different backgrounds and levels. I make partnerships and that has helped me in achieving my goals. I have learnt that success in the investigation field is dependent on how well one interacts with others and make lasting partnerships necessary for the success of operations. My ability to lead from the bottom has contributed positively in influencing decision making processes in my team - thanks to my manager for believing in me.

Pros: Employees are well looked after
Cons: Investigation- like in any organisation requires that one works extra hours

Excellent leadership provided by current CEO

- Complicated interpersonal relationships - Highly politicized environment in the sense that senior managers have their own agenda - Excellent leadership from CEO - Highly unionized - Very good relationships among most employees - Highly educated employee component - Much emphasize on self development - Long processes to get policies promulgated - Many changes in CEO incumbents resulting in instability of processes and low morale - Structure is under staffed - Very good compliance with few audit findings - Structure doesn't allow for promotion opportunities and various members have been in their positions for very long

Pros: Good leadership by current CEO will turn the company into a more profitable entity, assisted by an highly educated work force
Cons: Low morale in general
