Standard Chartered Bank Reviews

Excellent learning curve

My typical work day consisted of starting work at 7:30, started with reading emails, then whatever I had planned for the day. If there was work that needed to be done urgently for my manager, I would prioritise that. I had a great working relationship with most of my co-workers. We worked very well together, no matter how much pressure there was. I learnt that it is very important to build networks in any organisation, build good relationships with the suppliers and be able to mitigate any problems. I enjoyed being on my toes the whole time I was with Standard Chartered Bank, there was never a moment where there was time to sit around and not do anything. The most challenging aspects of the job was the restriction to access and approval for access, it normally took very long and that made my job difficult. however I was able to work around the challenges and get my work done with the help of my co-workers.

Pros: There was very little micro management, which gave me room to grow, make mistakes and be able to fix them.
Cons: There were too many restrictions, including access to systems that I needed in order to do my work effectively and efficiently.

Client implementation monitoring and tracking

It all about day to day monitoring implementation projects for electronic Banking, and ensuring that all issues logged are correctly followed till resolution and constant client feed back is given . I enjoy client interactions and sales pitches and solution reviews, project delivery. I have learnt that more listening leads to more solution options for various clients. The most challenging bit is the various stakeholders I have to deal with in just one deal and making sure all these are brought together at one way for same goal and work together for same goal, having to craft solutions for various clients with different business challenges

Pros: continuous learning
Cons: difficult moments with internal stakeholders

Payments Officer

Everyday is different. Starting from the morning with balancing off the previous days wok and crediting clients back and also checking why the returned funds did not go off. It can and does get hectic but once everything meaning the payments have gone through , its quite an achievement.

Pros: Learning curve
Cons: Communication

Learning Curve

Dynamic environment jam packed with daily challenges and regulatory curve balls. High intensity practical and logical thinking and an detailed analysis of facts and financial statements, together with adverse media and reputional risk consideration. Working with international stakeholders and expected to have all level liaison skills. Building relationships through trust and responsiveness. I have learned to think on my feet and roll with the punches. Never to assume anything and to be diligent when executing responsibilities as mistakes could lead to regulatory scrutiny and fines, not to mention reputational cost to the company. Enjoy the intensity of the work as well as the challenge to perform to the best of my abilities. In addition to develop new and cutting edge solutions to business dilemma's.

Pros: Great opportunity to obtain more comprehensive compliance knowledge as opposed to specialist
Cons: Regular travelling

My views

A typical day at work would be ensuring everything runs smoothly throughout the day. - I prepare all documentation for my manager which relates to meetings. - Diary management - Inbox management - Travel and departmental expenses - Any ad-hoc duties. I have a close relationship with my co-workers who are team assistants within Corporate Finance. Lesson's learn't: Pay extra attention to details. Triple check your work if you must. I enjoy the support role. I understand that my job is NOT 9 to 5 and my job will always be to make my manager's life easier. The most challenging aspect of my work will most definitely be dealing with individuals who are indecisive. Overall I really enjoy being involved in all aspects of my managers lives.

Pros: You learn a awful lot. I get to see the good, bad & ugly and I am in the fore front of everything.
Cons: Constant changes.

Good training experience

Am an approver for business banking and my day starts with checking emails for anything that would need my attention and quickly review performance of the portfolio specifically looking out for those who have cleared their dues and over drawn accounts. Ĺaise with respective RMs to follow up on delinquent accounts. My job involves working with internal staff & external staff and I enjoy it. And I have learnt that working and managing people is one of greatest traits one should ever have. My role involves visiting clients businesses and this kind of exposure is what I enjoy most, being able to analyse different kinds of income streams and cash flow projections. However, there challenges involved because every one looks at you; the approver as the solution to aĺl problems and yet for some cases you have to decline and still manage people.

Pros: Good working environment
Cons: Minimal Opportunities for growth
