Excellent introduction to the working world.
We worked in an investment environment with batch run daily. Our day consists of deadlines and fast response times. I had a very good relationship with my team and it was my job to motivate and direct them daily. I have learned that consistency and efficiency beat sudden bursts of energy, I have learned it is better to work for the collective success than individual recognition. I set the tone for the rest of the team and have to carry myself in a way that allows others to emulate, you lead by example and not dictatorship. Do not expect a standard from your team that you yourself cannot maintain. The most challenging aspect was when we could not assist a client to their satisfaction, this may be due to rules governing the processing of certain transactions to market movements.

New challenge
I have joined the company in June 2006 as part of their learnership programme which took a year, between 2006 and 2007 I got a lot of training with different departments at STANLIB and then in November 2007 I got a temporary position for 6 months but after 3 months I got a permanent position as creditors clerk, I also enhanced my knowledge & skills learning other processes within my department, SAP, Standard bank business online, foreign and local creditors. My personal values are integrity, respect and accountability. I believe in empowering myself and encouraging others to do the same. It is through these qualities, the experience and skills that I possess; that will help me perform above and beyond what is expected in any industry. This is what makes me go an extra mile in meeting our customer/supplier promise.

Great company culture a work ethic
I have experience as a fund accountant My key responsibilities included the following Prevent and/or detect Pricing errors, Receive files from Mancos (MM underlying Managers), Perform Unit reconciliation on Multi Manager funds before sending out trade, Ensure that trades are not duplicated, Perform Cash (call account) transfers as per Trade file and Valuation between current and call accounts and Perform Cash (variation Margin account) transfers as per Safex statement between Current and XMARVAR account. I have also worked for momentum retirement administrator, with a 3 years’ experience. I have completed my Bcom Accounting degree at The University of Johannesburg and have graduated in March of 2012. I would be very grateful for the opportunity

Great company culture a work ethic
I am privileged to be part of this group, I have learned a lot from from my time I have been working here I believe that I have gained some experience here as I have been exposed to a lot of work and I am now at the level where I understand the bigger picture of the industry The management style is also very professional and I am thankful that they are very hands on with fellow employees. Challenges of working here is just adapting to the big company as there is a large number of employees

Excellent learning curve
Month end reporting is challenging that the most challenging aspect. I enjoy calculating our management fees we charge to clients. Working well with my colleagues reporting needs a thre whole team's effort a good realtionship is what i have with my team.

Excellent learning curve
I work in the Skills Development department, I am responsible for the base administration of everything as well as coordinating. I am responsible for track of our BEE information and score card and ensuring that all documentations are well kept. I have learned the importance of reviewing the Vendors BEE because it influences our status, WSP, PDP and the importance of the employees being developed. I have an amazing relationship with my team, we have agile meetings three time a week to review our work progress and any bottlenecks. I enjoy making a difference in my workplace’s success.

My work at STANLIB is a typical work day.
What I enjoyed most was my interaction with other departments with a view to learn and gain experience from them. I enjoyed a lot of interaction within my team members and peers in exchanging ideas and assisting each other with the work flow. The most challenging part of my job was when you don't get enough time with the immediate manager due to meetings and travels, so work would pend and cause a delay for the clients' needs to be addressed. My relationship with co-workers was mutual, very helpful, and cooperative.
Pros: STANLIB has great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Long hours have never been my serious concern. I am able to work for long hours

Striving to be the best
The company has been in a transition phase for a few years now and the aim is to be a leader in the industry. This means that there is constant change and the environment is for continuous improvement with various projects to get this going. The leadership lives this vision and it is cascaded down. Drawbacks of this organisation is that there are too many levels of management and in some teams this vision gets diluted. The staff are keen to be working here and are generally optimistic about the future of the organisation.
Pros: Large corporate with lots of internal opportunities
