Great diversity, not restricted to a single work station, working with all types people and situ

Working at Stefcon has expanded my technical base. I get on well with the staff both those doing civils and those working as managers and foreman. In terms of maintenance and equipment failure I am responsible for 11 different construction sites. This keeps me fairly busy from 6am to 5pm 6/days a week. If sites work on Sundays I am on call in the event there is a break down. I do have two junior staff who can assist but neither are able to drive so I don't always get free time on weekends. The only real draw backs are:- In terms of promotion , there are no opportunities at present. Salaries have remained stagnant for the last 2 years. Operators of the equipment are constantly changing so training is a on going task throughout the year.

Pros: The variety of sites affords a bit of travel in the Durban area. The diversity of maintenance tasks keeps each day different and rewarding when all tasks are completed timorously.
Cons: Long work hours with sufficient tools and equipment to provide a truely high standard of work. Salaries and wages have been stagnant for 2 years at the moment. In terms of promotions there no opportunities in the near future.

Adjusting in every situation

Finishes are the most challenging job because is where you'll have to fix everything that went wrong when doing structure. Being in this company I have learnt to push from the begin until the end because as mostly I do finishes so the time I always come to that building its where I have to push for completion and by that time most of the deadlines already pass. I have to make sure the client is happy and my bosses too. And loving my job its what always make the company make the client happy. Even though its not easy sometimes to work over time for the completion. But the most difficult part is when we build residentials where we have to also deal with purchasers.
