I'm analytical, hard working and a team player

A typical day at the office start with updating cash flow projections based on money received and invoices sent out the previous day. Then an assessment of where or work in progress is sitting versus any deposits received from clients and evaluation of risk exposure. From there the day to day activities takes place. My co-workers are the strength of my function and constant communication is kept with them to know what is happening on matters we're handling for our clients. I have learnt a lot on attorneys trust account, something that was new to me as I didn't come from a law firm industry. I enjoy working with people and coordinating our work to ensure that it flows automatically to enable us to make informed decisions. The most challenging thing is that I work alone in the finance department with directors not willing to employ a junior bookkeeper. This mean I can never take leave without working at home.

Pros: Being in full charge of the accounting function, including tax and reporting directly to directors who are also shareholders
Cons: Not having a second person to work with in finance exposes me to strain

I have over 5 years post articles experience.

TGR is a medium sized law firm. I effectively head the competition team and have submitted merger filings and appeared before the Competition Tribunal and have acted against the Competition Commission. I also work on consumer related matters and have acted for the National Credit Regulator and run matters independently.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth and exposure to complex matters and
Cons: Poor working conditions and poor staff morale. Executive team is poor and poor communicators.
