Meeting tight deadlines and submitting quality work

My job entails strict deadlines and very long working hours. Meeting deadlines, although quite challenging, has made me a target oriented person. This has made me appreciate team work and a better team player. Very tight deadlines, e.g. submission of more than one tender on the same day has been one of my greatest challenges. It puts a lot of pressure and fatigue, especially if it happens everyday of the week with no break. I enjoy meeting deadlines and submitting quality work and also taking a break after working too hard to avoid a breakdown.

Pros: There is no room for a promotion and no empowerment. It is not easy to shift from one department to another so as to get to know and learn how other departments operate. Suggestions from employees are not considered especially where the employee has identified ways to make their work easier. An employee can stay in one department for a long time and this leads to one feeling stuck.
Cons: Long hours and tackling too many tenders over a short period of time have always been the greatest challenge.

Been exposed to a variety of mechanical engineering projects

A typical day in my job starts off with a update meeting with the project team. Planning for the day and securing tools and material to execute the job for the day including discussion on health and safety. The company has done projects in all South African provinces and hence l have had a vast experience in relating to different cultures. Most challenging has been to try and finish a project within the stipulated time frame,with a limited under bad get.

Pros: Good learning opportunities
Cons: Too much over time

The job has safety

Have moved different positions within the company employment like projects administrator, site agent and project manager. I have run projects, support ongoing company projects with both project and contract management. I joined the company in November 2011 earning R22500.00 per month and there has been very little review I salary mainly because of the financial difficulties the company is facing for some time now. I have acquired diverse experience in the construction industry by working for this company though. I can run projects of up to R200 000 000.00 alone and can manage my subordinates well

Pros: safety
Cons: very little chances of getting a good increament
