Good learning curve

I have learnt a lot about its corporate culture from the time I was still an intern to when I got my permanent position. The problem is that even after I have gathered the experience and an opportunity for growth arise, they always consider external people first leaving their staff members less motivated. It is better to leave for a while after your internship and then come back later.

Pros: Great Exposure
Cons: slow/no growth

I am hard-working and proactive with the ability to work well both independently and in a team.

I have over 14 years’ experience in the Petro-chemical sector. I am responsible for compiling and analysing daily BFP (Basic Fuel Oil), daily indicators SARMI (South African Refinery Margins) and also weekly market indicator dashboard and analysis. Daily following up with manufacturing team to highlight the risks identified with the Operational Risk and Economical risk. Provide market factors that have impacts on margins to Refining team.

Pros: GREAT OPOTURNITY FOR GROWTH
Cons: WORKING LATE

Atmosphere for learning and growth

My typical days at work consist of aligning procurement objectives with organizational ones. Finding opportunities for sustainable savings without compromising on quality. Managing relationship with internal clients and key suppliers. Strategising the commodity. Encouraging fair and competitive biding. On certain tenders I try to get my colleagues opinion prior to presenting it to the Tender Committee and avail myself when my assistance is needed. In procurement I have learned to be vigilant, to follow processes and to ask questions in order to procure the correct services. I enjoy appointing suppliers which carry our brand as their own. The challenge is satisfying internal client at all times by demonstrating that procurement is a responsible role which makes the organisation compliant and encourages innovation and spending shareholder money responsibly.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning and leading buyers by example.
Cons: Simplifying the scope of work.

Myself....

am currently an analyst in corporate strategy division where my main focus is being research and analysis for strategy initiatives. I partake in numerous strategy analysis i.e. cost analysis, data analysis and processes implementations etc. I am an internal consultant for the company. I am eager to explore opportunities that will enhance and improve my career development while I add sustainable value to organisations. I was seconded as a project coordinator for CAP project, which is a strategic project on agility and cost saving for TSA. I monitored the costs against the target savings in the interim of the project. I am a strong team contributor, resilient and adaptable. I prefer analytical work, research and problem-solving roles. I see myself as a future manager and a leader in a global organisation, where I can contribute to the ethos of the group. I am currently studying B.Com Economics Theory III for Honors purposes.

Pros: more room for growth
Cons: leadership style

A Great environment for Career growth

Joined Total in 2014, as an intern after graduating. Got a to experience the corporate world for the first time with Total, received by a very excellent team of young people who where passionate about their jobs, not too long I got my hands dirty and started working in Credit risk. The team supported me to grow, and became one of the high potential from the pool of all intens joined in that year. At the end of my internship Total introduced the Young Graduate Program exchange for Africa, I was considered to go and work in Zimbabwe for a year which was a great opportunity to learn and share my knowledge from the previous role. In Feb 2016 I was back in South Africa and back at Total South Africa, Appointed as a budgeting and reporting analyst, this role extended my knowledge in the management accounting role. My colleges are a very supportive and fun in fact there is never a dull day at the office with them. My managers appreciate my efforts every day and support me to grow.

Pros: My grade will be upgraded in March
Cons: During the budgeting process and month end we work very long ours

Poor

Total SA is comfortably the worst company I've worked for. They are driven by process, rather than focussing on their clients and their needs, and as a result are losing clients than faster than they can bring them in

Pros: Large corporate, job security
Cons: Terrible environment, most of the staff are despondent about their situation
