Learning curve

In this organization I learned and gained a bit of legal skills and I am still trying to ensure that I receive the required expertise in this field. I an focused and willing to expand my avenues in other organizations and gain skills as I would like to own my own business in the near future. In this organization and in checkers hyper that I worked in I would come in the morning at about eight in the morning. I would be responsible for the admin, typing and the distribution of the daily duties in the work place.

Pros: the salarly because i was still a student
Cons: long working hours

Great

There's nothing to complain about really. UKZN is a great platform for learning. Those who come keen to learn leave with qualifications and those who don't leave with whatever they were busy with.

Pros: Good learning institution

Recent graduate chemist looking for an opportunity to grow in a company or

I was afforded the opportunity to work as a vacation student at SASOL in Sasolburg in the Sastech R&D department, in Dec 2012 to Jan 2013 I worked in the catalysis group with Dr Peter Ledwaba and in Dec 2014 to Jan 2015 I worked in the coal and environmental department with Dr Lesego Moitsheki. The duties that I carried out were the synthesis of various copper catalysis and conduct a full characterisation, the sampling of various coal samples from the mines, the preparation of samples and conducting a full characterisation and comparison of coal samples. The time spent there have been invaluable considering the exposure to the industrial sector, networking with many scientist and engineers and the various analytical techniques that I had been introduced to such as powder XRD, XRF, AFT, TGA, SEM, Petrography etc.

Pros: I had the opportunity to publish a paper
Cons: Had a few stumbling blocks with respect to research but manage to persevere

Excellent place for growth

Work tends to be much in the mornings, but it gets lesser as the day goes by, and it becomes even easier when you plan properly what to do before hand. I have worked with people who are friendly and who do their jobs which makes it easier to do mine. I have learned to work with both independent ( people who know what to do)and dependent (Those that you have to plan for them and tell them all the time what to do next) coworkers. There is freedom for career development and growth, the organization cares and assist with talent management and self development. Staff members are also funded their studies. What is most challenging is the lack of funding thus we have to use sometimes old equipment.

Pros: great opportunity for growth, sponsor further studies
Cons: No clear performance measurement for support staff
