Great learning curve as I was working for a company based in Zambia

Working for a newly established company was exciting. Had to try out things and if they do not work then go to the drawing board and start over. I loved working and building relationships with our service providers. I.loved working with a team of individuals that are passionate about. Providing great service same as myself. A typical day at work , I would come.in and check my emails incase there are new processes or updates. Then logging and be available for that first customer that would require my assistance. The most challenging this was not being able to speak vernacular the African languages so that I can.be proactive and assist my clients on their firsts point of contact. I took it upon myself to.learn.and translate the greeting and finding out how I could help in vernacular.I enjoyed organising team buildings for my department and mentor sessions for ladies in the company.

Pros: Great opportunity to for promotion
Cons: Shift work

Great Culture.

Great culture but unfortunately not a challenging environment for an analyst / product manager as the company founders struggle to "let go" and allow people to perform their role of designing new products and systems. A lot of experience is not being fully recognized due to this impediment. Great working environment and I have made a lot of friends in the relatively short time I have been there. Typical workday... arrive at 6AM, prepare content for the daily meetings. Scrum stand-up at 10, then meetings till 5PM (e.g. requirements gathering, strategic planning, information security meetings) then close the day out with ensuring my meeting notes are sufficient to be able to create the necessary / relevant artifacts the following morning. The most enjoyable component of my position is that I occasionally get to travel and spend time with our agent network in Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and the DRC. I struggle to find anything challenging in my current role.

Pros: Helping the financially excluded throughout Africa
Cons: Lack of ownership in the products I manager

Challenging but free to be yourself

Work hard, but culture is free to be yourself. There is incredible understanding, and there is the drive to be excellent, and give of your best. It can be fun, but challenging. People who have a thirst to learn and be proactive are encouraged

Pros: Great opportunity to learn the industry
Cons: Have to be very adaptable and flexible

Zoona is so different from all the previous companies I worked at

Currently I'm on contract at Zoona which is a money transfer company. From day one there is an awesome vibe. I interact with all staff since working at the company. I am challenged on a daily basis especially when being pulled in all directions.

Pros: Opportunity to grow
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent leaning curve and positive ethical culture

A very positive and fun workplace with so much learning on a daily basis. Very multiplying engagement with co-workers. I have learned how to value customers experience. Working while having fun, keeping fit and engaging with customers. While unable to meet the customers needs due to business regulations.

Pros: not really bur we get free lunch on Saturday
Cons: Saturday long hours and public holidays

Great team with very diverse backgrounds.

We have a very good work culture that is relaxed but outcomes driven. We focus on getting things done rather than process and procedures. I have learnt a lot about financial systems especially credit and loans as well as new technologies and tools. I enjoy the freedom to find my own solutions to challenges in my own creative ways. The most challenging part of the job was managing all the different personalities and ideas.

Pros: Exposure to every part of the business from consumer to final products.
Cons: Execs managing down instead on focusing on their key areas.
