Good communication practice

Department of agriculture forestry and fisheries communication unit. Communicate all vital information thought out department. We work close with co workers on daily basis to accomplish out mandate. I leanert how to communicate on professional level and enjoyed most travelling experience.

Pros: Opportunities off working at national department is that you get to exposed to many work activities and working on professional level.
Cons: Long working hours will be experienced and travelling the whole country and also lots of work and activities to accomplished within time given.

Learning curve

My work involves conducting training on the provisions of the Act that i'm responsible for Forest Act, working with various stakeholders such as other Government Department, Municipalities, public and judiciaries give me joy, also train them on other environmental legislation providing them information . Conduct audit to mining companies to ensure that they are complying with the environmental lagislation Conduct public consultation during the amendment of legislation. I enjoy working with various stakeholders meeting people from different groups I enjoyed giving information out.

Pros: meeting with different people/ stakeholders, help me to learn and develop myself
Cons: dealing with difficult stakeholders

Good experience

I have a great relationship with my mentor/supervisor so as other members in the fruit flower sub-directorate of Food Safety and Quality Assurance. I share an office and I get along so well with office mate. I have learnt a lot from the export standards which regulated by drafting, compiling and amending export standards for different fruit group. I learned about methods of inspection, how to sample fruits for inspection, important of traceability in a supplying chain, quality factors for fruits and cultivar concerned. How to issue a dispensation after a inspector has rejected a certain quality factor and a farmer applies to deviate from the export standards that has been regulated. I enjoy Compiling and granting dispensation to farmers or clients. Biggest challenge is when a n incompetent farmer or company did not give full information on the dispensation form and we can not even get hold of the farmer as no personal details where provided.

Cons: Its a year contract not a permanent job

Experience

It is really interesting in working at DAFF because in most of the time we concentrate more on administration work, were I process fishing permits screening, Verification and processing of Catch, Transport, Export, Import and FPE permit applications as well as new vessel license applications.Drafting of submissions for control of effort in the fishery (Vessel change applications), assist to co-ordinate the review of guidelines e.g. permit conditions.Handle logistics necessary in convening management working groups and stakeholder outreach and compile meeting report documents. Consult and communicate with stakeholders. Management of documents and data capturingmonthly reports. I enjoy delivering good service to my clients. the most difficult aspect of the job is when convincing communities to always respect the fishing laws because they always believe that the marine resource belongs to them since other communities are close to the coast.

Report writting, reconciliation

It was a challenging but I enjoyed it because I work with people. I learned how to multi task and how to add value to the team. I learned how to speak to the customers and how build a relationship with customers.My relationship with my co workers was good, We put our personal issues aside and focus on achieving the goals.

Pros: I got an opportunity to go to Pretoria and go to ellensburg college to listen the minister of agriculture
