Department of Health Reviews

It was hard but quiet excellent place to gain confindence in your self.

You meet different people every day different personalities with different problems. You should learn to be discreet and humble. You should always be friendly and ready to welcome people.

Pros: It's highly unusual
Cons: You work your normal hours except when it's time for Audits and there are files that are required.

Excellent learning curve

At health department i work 8 hours Monday to Friday My relationship with co-workers it is of the brotherly and sisterly one because i interact with each and every units in the department. i have learn to accept the fact that we are diverse, culturally, learn from one another and acknowledge others opinions. As a monitoring and evaluation, my job is very flexible because i get to learn so many different units such as clinical, finance, supply chain, human resource and transport. The challenging part about my work is that you need all the time be on board, be on top of things , attention to detail, confidential and be able to work under pressure and prepared to work long hours.

Pros: Exposed to opportunity in both private and government sectors
Cons: long working hours, attention to details and Confidentiality.

Painful lesson

I would look forward to each day at work. It is very fulfilling to learn that you have made a difference in patient's lives and they actually appreciate it. I love the way we work with the nursing staff. The most challenging and critical point is that the salaries are never paid on time at all.

Pros: Good working environment
Cons: No clear pay day or date

Health promotion livelihood

A typical day at works includes engaging with the community, learning of their health needs and educating people on good health choices. A number of the health programs that we start are for the people of that community and I have learnt that health problems and multidisciplinary and require continuous improvement from stakeholders. I work well with my coworkers and mostly under pressure especially when there's a deadline. I am currently doing my Masters in Public Health and that has taught me how the extract and make use of information for research purposes, but at work its a different ball game because it's not as easy to extract information however health promotion has taught to liaise and advocate for people and in turn they help me with information. At first it was very challenging for me to stand in front of a crowd and preach safe condom use and to stop smoking, however living and engaging with communities has given me the courage to give people the choice to choose regards of how I feel.

Pros: Engagement with community, data and research skills application
Cons: Not very challenging with regards to my expertise
