Budget Admin, Investment analysis and Budget recons.

The company encourage us to sty further and be innovated. Managers are very passionate when it comes to training and equipping us. All companies think they have those typical days when maybe its auditing period but since we know what we are here for we manage to handle that pressure. There is no challenges except that you have to know and have budgeting skills in order to teach other units that they don't have that knowledge.

Pros: Development of skills
Cons: When it towards the end of any quarter and financial year end.

Life in the IDT

The Independent development Trust is a highly friendly working environment. Team work has always resulted in achieved results. I have learnt patience and passion are two things that make projects a success. Colleagues are from diverse cultures and interacting with each other has resulted in me appreciating every person from every background. The most challenging aspects are the vast distances travelled in the Northern Cape but its a challenging yet exciting experience.

Pros: So much to learn in terms of developing sustainable communities
Cons: Not much room for promortion

Working at the Independent Developmemt Trust

The Independent Development Trust (Kimberley) has a total number of 21 employees. We are closely knit and respect each other. A normal day starts with a cup of coffee and reading through emails. Thereafter the duties of the day are conducted, a lot of travelling is involved in this office as projects that we do are implemented in and around the Northern Cape. I have learnt basics of Project management an my ability to work under pressure has been enhanced. I enjoy working as a team. The most challenging part of my job has been travelling in the biggest province in South Africa and working late hours at time but I have embraced it.

Pros: Small working enviroment
Cons: Not much opportunity for growth

Excellent learning phase

It was good working with the Western Cape IDT team and have learned the time was working in the company. As the staff we were like a family. You would come in the morning maybe in low spirits but sometimes when you get to the office you forget about that challenged you faced earlier. As colleagues we helped each other if one needs explanation on how to do a task. Have learned other work from other departments for example I was hired as a Data capture but learned to do and Administrators work nd even acted as the Programme Implementation Administrator for a temporary period of time.

Pros: Good opportunity to learn
Cons: N/A

The space for growth

My work involves planning and finalising all logistical issues regarding the running of the GM’s office which entails various engagement with both internal and external stakeholders.I am a member of a diverse team wherein each member has a specific role to play in advancing the objectives of the entity. Such interactions are very professional wherein respect and ethical conduct is practiced all the times. The successful attainment of a task gives me much satisfaction & joy. - The most challenging aspect is of different stakeholders who have different ( and sometimes conflicting views) about the purpose or objectives of the engagement/ interaction.

Pros: Great opportunity of empowerment
Cons: working under pressure

Communicating within a infrastructure project management environment

The organisation provides a learning curve for managing a wide range of infrastructure projects delivered by government in different communities. Since I started working for the organisation I have learnt a lot about infrastructure project management, stakeholder and community relations, managing media enquiries and communicating with different stakeholders. I enjoy visiting different projects in many locations and talk to the community members about how our projects are changing their lives. The most challenging aspect about my work is ensuring that I adequately serve different people.

Pros: Travelling to different places
Cons: Working long hours

Great learning curve in terms of projects

A typical day at work involves lot of communication with colleagues to share progress on projects and assist each other in dealing with unique project challenges. It also includes monitoring of project targets, managing of risks, managing of different stakeholders, compiling of reports. The most challenging aspect involves dealing with team members that are not sticking to deadlines or submitting inadequate information at last minutes. that derails projects. Project management involves lots of communication and being able to analyse information critically in order to achieve intended targets efficiently.

Pros: great opportunity for development
Cons: working with people or government departments that dont value the importance of time
