Project Cost Management
On a daily basis I monitor projest costs against commitments and budget and raise flag to Project Manager of change notices required. I work very closely with QS's, Document Control, Contract Administrators and it is important for me to maintain a goo working relationship with these disciplines as we need to be aligned in order for each project cost report to reflect accurate information I have learnt the fundamentals of Project Cost Management and Project Schedule as the two go hand in hand. I enjoy seeing a project complete with no audit findings, within budget and within schedule The most challenging aspect is having to rely on other disciplines for important reporting information that needs to be included in the Project Status Report which I compile, our reporting system could be structured better, where each discipline inputs and final report is generated and sent to Project Managers for review automatically so that they can track the report better.
Pros: Trainings provided as per Iindividual Development Plan
Cons: No opportunity for promotion therefore growth/development rate is slow

Multidisciplinary
Transnet exposes you to a variety of specialists from different disciplines such as engineers (civil, industrial, geotechnical, etc.), financial modellers, demand specialists, safety specialists, environmentalist, real estate, etc. You get exposed to many aspects of the company from concept, planning, design to construction. There is a harmonious working relation amongst workers from seniors to juniors; Transnet employees treat each other with the utmost respect regardless of level. The one aspect that I have enjoyed the most is the importance of the work that we undertake, it is of national importance, seeing the work one has done on national publications and broadcasters is a dream. The one important lesson learned is the importance of being a solution to the challenges one faces in the work we do. The most challenging aspects of the job is visibility, amongst many professionals it is very hard to stand out.
Pros: Working for the greater good of the country. Working with specialists that know work very well. The transparency, honesty and openness of the Transnet colleagues.
Cons: Restructurings

Excellent learning curve
I have had a great learning experience. I sucked in a lot from this compnay and it has groomed me to become a more competent young professional. I am a bit worried about the levels of growth. I have been in the same position for a number of years and I feel like my hard work and dedication remains unnoticed.
Pros: Great opportunity to learn.
Cons: No room for growth
