Currently working for Transnet as Millwright,my previous employment was in Newcastle under company called Arcelor Mittal that Wher I qualified as Millwright I then moved to Richards bay under company called BHP billion of which it South32 now I was there as Maintenance Millwright also
Pros: I work as normal Person attend all required work making sure all the service and maintaining is kept under company rules making sure all job cards has been filled,if I am running breakdowns making sure the time I utilize it at a correct manner to avoid long delays then after hand all to the next coming shift as required, I do enjoy learning all different types of work since I do not choose what to do and what not to do I dedicate my self when it comes to doing my job
Cons: I do not mind working long hours specially when my shift has passed knowing I left a breakdown and I havnt find a fault l actually dedicate my time and stay behind working till I figure out the fault and the impact of it

Working for Transnet
I'm currently working for Transnet based in Johannesburg, Carlton Centre. Transnet has embarked on a cost saving initiative throughout the company. For strategic sourcing environment, this means that each category has to propose cost savings initiatives per commodity. This means that as a commodity manager I have to analyse my commodities and together with the supplier come up with cost savings strategies which will result to cash. this exercise is time consuming and requires thorough understanding of the environmental factors which the supplier is facing and Transnet as a client. in addition to this I have to do the day-to-day responsibilities, such as reporting, adherence to corporate governance issues, supplier development initiatives, B-BBEE improvement plants.
Pros: exposure to both public and private sector
Cons: constant long working hours which i need to balance with my life

It was a experience and a learning curve
Working at Transnet has been incredible, the environment is friendly and my co-worker we have a good relationship and we work together even if you do not understand something they help you.what I enjoy is creating a new filling system for my department. Challenge that I met i had to learn and work with people from a different background cultures,I had to learn their culture so that we can work together

A broad range of engineering and management skills in a large company
I work 08h00 to 16h00, with some after hours work when required. I am in middle management, supervising young engineers and reporting to a chief engineer. I have responsibility for providing technical support across the Group and country. I have the freedom to do research, investigate issues, run projects, advise on maintenance, do failure analysis and generally contribute to all aspects of the technology. I do not manage a large budget or take ultimate responsibility for projects. I work with a diverse range of people and levels.
Pros: Great multi-disciplinary learning experience.
Cons: Bureaucratic decision making can be frustrating. Defensive culture.

Excellent learning curve
We were doing fault finding and fixing machines. My relationship with my coworkers was perfect and I have learn a lot such as to fix so2 welding machines, trouble shooting the jigs, fixing lights, and many more jobs that hto do with maintenance. As an experiential learner it was so difficult to.work when artisans are not there but at the same time I was getting more confidence and being independent alone.
Pros: I gained more knowledge
Cons: Sometimes we had nothing to do if there are no faults present

Learnt so much in terms of logistics
I start work 15minutes before to analyze the work for the day and plan. I communicate with co-workers about the expectation from senior management and customers. I have a good relationship with co-workers and as well they have good relation with me. I have learnt a lot in terms of communication, leadership, reporting and presentation skills to mention a few. My challenging moments is when we have challenges in reaching the expected target and need to report to customers and senior management. The good moments is when we are ahead of target allocated to us by both management and satisfying the customers.
Pros: Oppotunities of promotion are available.
Cons: Longer working hours and working under pressure.

Good
i was working as a service Department and working with everyone in the plant,team work was the key one as we were few in my department but scheduling work was the key per the job cards.Yes there will be challenges there and there due to insufficient of resources but will try and utilize to our utmost best of our abilities .

Excellent and great learning curve
Transnet is a company which gives an individual great exposure and experience. It has excellent on job training and courses which one attends through filling an individual development plan every year.
