Challenging Opportunities

A typical work day for me is to compile engineering documents as part of the project lifecycle process. I lead 3 projects of which 1 is mainly managing resources and contractors, 1 is finalising designs and the third is to complete concept designs together with design reports and criteria. I have to do planning and estimations for all projects that I am involved with. I have a positive relationship with my co-workers and we get the work done. I am quality and time driven. I have learnt how to lead different sized teams that are very diversed. I have improved my communication skills as well as my designing skills. I enjoy the team celebrations when we complete the projects on time and on budget. It gives a sense of appreciation. The most challenging aspects of my job is working with difficult resources that is not always motivated to complete their tasks causing delays in the delivery of finished tasks.

Pros: Room for growth in career
Cons: Promotions are not always possible

Excellent

We were working as a team..enjoy everything and learned to work different job even if you dont paid to do that particular job. The most challenging expert of the job is when we had to meet our targerts and managements ask to work extra hours on a short notice. Those who dont have transport managers took them home with their transports. Out come of that secrifice between us and management we normally meet our targerts and got good incentive bonus.

Pros: it was not easy to get promited there most opportunities gave new workers not those with long services
Cons: overtime

Challenging and rewarding, requires patience

Work involves working with lost data and requires extensive stakeholder engagement I have a good relationship with my co-workers. My projects involve managing change. This gives me a good platform to build and maintain good relations with my co-workers. I enjoy the fact that projects generally have a high impact due to the large of the operations at Transnet Freight Rail. The financial benefits target for my projects this financial year is R270 million. The most challenging aspect of my job is that my outputs have a the high level of inter-dependency on other functions. In a State Owned Entity decisions sometimes take a long time to make which can delay progress in operations and in projects.

Pros: Work output directly contributes to the economy of the country
Cons: High levels of red tape, bureaucracy.

Stable company

I have more than 20 years’ experience in end-to-end management of ICT projects and complex programs using PMBOK, SDLC and Agile. I accelerate delivery of projects so as to enable organisations to minimise costs and maximise benefits in projects. I am also a Coach able to motivate teams to perform most productively. Prior experience in Banking, Power, Logistics, Insurance, Public Sector, Education, ICT Consulting firms and Automation environments among others. In the last 3 years I successfully managed a troubled transition and transformation programme for Transnet’s country-wide network whose MSA objective was to achieve SLA of 99.9% based on 8 project towers. The network connects 35000 users.

Pros: a great reference
Cons: complex organisation
