Acquired good trade skills and experience

Worked away from home. Operated and maintained a Rail track reprofiler machine. Job was production focused, stressfull and hands on. Was exposed to Hydraulics that entailed traction, powerpacks and servicing off hydraulic cylinders and various valves, hydraulics was of the closed loop type. Pneuhmatics which entailed panels with various valves and pnuehmatic equipment, servicing of the equipment and compressors. All hydraulics and pneuhmatics was controled via PLC. I was exposed to plc faultfinding etc. Staying and working away from home with colleages around you 24/7 has its ups and downs. Cooking, relaxing, staying and working together all the time, you do not realy have personal space, so it was tough. I worked for Aveng Rail 8 years in the field and enjoyed the travelling. Aveng had to unfortunately retrench a lot of people, I was one off them.

Leadership and being innovative

My day starts when the first person arrives at work and the last person leaves the office since I am responsible for arming and disarming the alarm system, I am reporting to EXCO team the SHE Performance of the week including changes in Legislations. I start my day addressing employees at safety talks, that's how I build my relationship with them. I have learned to lead by example. I enjoy developing procedures, policies and training employees, seeing incidents rates dropping is my joy. Being in Safety/Compliance Department can be lonely because everybody sees you as a police officer. The most challenging part of my job is when the authorities or auditors come to knock at your company`s doors, irrespective of who is guilty, as a SHE Manager you will be the one to answer most questions and you cannot say I told you so. That makes you a player and a Referee at the same time.

Pros: My years of experience, achievements and leadership skills i acquired through training and engagement in EXCO forums.
Cons: Dealing with Managers who only see prodution as the only important thing at workplace and safety as wasting time.

More learning experience

Pros: More intervention with plant managers which makes a bit of responsibility on my position

Have learned a lot of things especially working with so may people and being a safety represantative

It is a large manufacturing company based at Boksburg.it gives opportunities to all personnel, it has given me training in being a safety represantative, fire fighting level , first aid. i also had the experience of working with hydraulics and pneumatics.

Pros: you get the opportunity of identifying and solving problems on your own and reporting to head office.
Cons: in case of break downs you work until the problem is solved

Intermediate learning curve

-I have gained trade certificate through my company -I have gained experience as a fitter -I was also given an opportunity to be in inspection, -the bad thing is we don't sign job cards, which leads lack of communication between artisans -favoritism -female artisans are not recognized.

Pros: Working normal hours
Cons: No promotion opportunities

Very adaptable

Dear RECRUITER I am a heavy equipment artisan with strong basic knowledge for light vehicles and electricity I have skills combined with a flexible attitude to work and strong organizational skills in a variety of situations to archive deadlines,i have initiative and work well with people at all levels easily making good working relationships,I am also very adaptable and quick to learn new skills. With the combination of my interest in support and maintenance along with myself taught skills in repairs and and installation,I am confident I’d make a great fit to any team.

I have been working on deferent sites since I've started at the company and I enjoy my work

I've been to sites even outside the country to maintain and do fault finding on track machines. I am one person who has been working on my own mostly or with operator and an assistant.I am good in doing fault finding and maintaining as well as fixing

Pros: I am working mostly on deferent machines and new challenges all the times
Cons: I usually worked overtime when I was required

Growth

I enjoy doing mechanical fitting job as the more I engage my self on task, breakdown or project it open my brain in a way that I learn more tricks to deal wth a problem that I might encounter in a safe way as possible .

Pros: Great opportunity for growth in the industry
Cons: Overtime, and long hours

Full time safety officer on site

I was working under the biggest client in our country HATCH GOBA.i work on my own conducting audit,client specefication,inductions,accident invistication ,monthly report,comletand conduting risk assessments,monitoring and managing overall health and safety on th project,weekly site walk,toolbox talks
