My Job and desires

A typical work day for me would be coming into the office receive drawings from an Architect clean the drawings on AutoCAD meaning setting all colours to grey, changing line types, etc. After all that I would start my site electrical reticulation, Lighting, Power and Access Control design. The past two years the Access Control designs has been minimal. After my prelim design is complete I would do power consumption, Voltage drop and fault level calculation (if necessary) calculations. All lighting designs are done using the Relux programme. I always strive to maintain a good relationship with my colleagues and clients during and after working hours. Most of my career I have done LV services, I feel that it is time to step out my comfort zone and learn other services such as MV and HV. With that said it does not mean that I am not willing to LV services. The best part of my job would be the valuations, checking if the work was done correct and everything is in place.

Pros: proficient in AutoCAD and MS programs
Cons: Relux external lighting simulations. Designing ceiling trusses and purlins on Relux.

Great learning experience

Site visits, tender processes, client liaison, management of contractors. The work is not monotonous, you work on different sites and work with other professionals in other careers. The job also build your confidence and helps you become more independent.

Cons: salary not up to par
