Great learning experience

As background on my position as a technical buyer at Cochrane Steel Products, I was granted leeway to process authorized requisitions and conduct purchases that adhere to all aspects surrounding a purchase including company policy of standard practices and procedures. Every buyer was given a platform from which to work from, necessary to make purchases adequately and sufficiently. Even though our transport dpt was to my disposal, every purchase still had to be configured in a way that was cost effective but still complied with our needs. E.g a product might be cheaper but might not necessary conform to the correct steel grade, or can not be delivered in time, or a supplier might not have adequate levels of stock making the entire purchasing process from the get-go irrelevant. Small details and fine writing is where the trick lies with every purchase order and can cost the company millions if left unnoticed.

What I have learnt

I have learnt that In order to make it in any company u have to be able to be quick on your feet if you are an arrange Joe you will go by unnoticed what makes you stand out is the work that u put in the hours, are u willing to go that extra mile? I have learnt that your work does not go with out notice and that my company looks to improve the lives of its employees, I have learnt that with great communication a lot can be achieved and that if you have an idea you need to ensure that it is heard through the proper channels of course.
