Lafargeholcim Reviews

Excellent learning curve , no career progression

Senior professional with over 18 years’ experience in business start-up, integration, quantifying and applying due diligence for acquisitions and business turnaround. I have obtained most of my experience in the Waste and Environmental Management industry. I currently work as the Managing Director Geocycle for the LafargeHolcim group and prior to this role, I was the Head Logistics, Landfill and Sales for the Averda group in South Africa and subsequently spent the 10 months working abroad in Beirut, Morocco, Angola, UK, Dubai and Oman.

Pros: Access to global career opportunities
Cons: Local instability and toxic culture

Great learning curve

Great company for engineers to grow, but for chemists the experience is limited unless you are moved from one branch to another. I personally have learned to not entertain work politics as they normally don't get you anywhere, get to work and to what you are paid for. We are all equal but some departments are more equal than others. There is a sense of family-hood in some people makes easy to face some of the challenges. I enjoy having to organize and be responsible for my shift, managing myself.

Pros: Growth for students
Cons: Long working hours

I co-operate all the time

I have accumulated a lot of experience in a shortage time period, I am always eager to learn new aspects more especially related to my career. I do pre-start inspections for the plant before start and while its running two times a day, I do the ordering of spares, do plant and production key performance indicators (KPI's) everyday. I have learnt to work in groups and as individual, I have a good relationship with the co-workers and management as well. Resolving work obstacles,issues/ challenges positively and quickly is my everyday's task.

Pros: I would like to see myself in a more challenging level one day.
Cons: I am flexible working overtime

Learning curve

I work long hours and on standby after working hours and Saturdays. I am a team player ,work well with co-workers. I have learned that for every issues you face with customer or co-workers is never personal and resolving issues without including personal feelings works in the best interest of the company. The biggest challenge of the Job is traveling ,I am on the road for almost 4 hours everyday

Pros: Resourceful, training it's stuff
Cons: Long working hours
