We go out to the field for farm assessments, we collect data and record it. We record the number and classes of livestock that are available in the farm in order to calculate their stocking capacity. We then check the soil cover and look at the different plant species that are there. We record the types of grasses that we find in the area, to determine their grazing value and whether the land is suitable for animals to graze. We record the types of trees found there and their browsing capacity. We check the infrastructure of the farm to see whether it is in good condition for farming and whether they have enough drinking troughs for the animals, and the place is well fenced and everthing is in good working condition. We return to the office to write a detailed report about the farm and then we submit the report to our supervisors and to the Land bank.

Execellent organisation for career development
On a daily basis I meet with the supervisor and discuss the work for the day e.g. visiting camps for the animals, inspect the camp and the animals physically scouting for diseases and checking the availability of grass for the animals. while working at Mara I have learnt a lot of things such as good communication with fellow employees, time management and following work standards and protocols. I enjoy working with animals a lot so agriculture is my passion. The most challenging aspects of work is everyday you face new challenge as animals are living things such as difficult births and diseases.
Pros: Great opporntunity for career advancement
Cons: Long working hours and over weekend
