Able to gain excellent experience in a wide range of skills

Due to the size and scope of the operations, it was possible gain experience at almost every aspect of the financial function. I have worked in debtors, creditors, capital, financial accounting up to producing financial statements. I have also worked with petty cash, EFT releases and creating organizational hierarchies. I have worked in budgeting and forecasting, planning and analysis, external reporting and presentations to the board and annual/interim and quarterly results. I have also worked for 4 years in continues improvement and change management. I have also been exposed to the supply chain environment, in strategic sourcing. I worked directly in operations and liaised with auditors and senior and executive management – I have therefore worked on all levels of the organization.

Pros: Due to the size and scope of the operations, it was possible gain experience at almost every aspect of the financial function.
Cons: When the industry shrink due to market conditions, opportunities disappear and work security is seriously affected.

Career Stepping stone.

I have experience in the Crushing, Milling , Floatation, Tailings Treatment, Sample Preparations, Running Plant Projects, Safety awereness, Control Room Operation and Being a Supervisor to a team of 6 Employees. My plan is to be a Process Engineer in 2 years.

Pros: It's a learning experience I am enjoying, and Problem solving skills being enhanced.
Cons: Upgrading of employees is slow.

Gaining the meeded experience

My time at lonmin has been great, I have grown a lot from being a student wroking on projects to being the lab technician I am today. I have learned that I work well under pressure and that was when my supervisor was on her maternity leave,I had to work alone and make sure that all the results are reported before my shift ends. We have three plants that we offer services to and one has to priorities based on the activities of that plant on that day and that I learned by interacting with the plant control room coordinators and the process engineers. Through this I learnt that i work well in a team and also as an individual. I have been exposed to alot of instruments that were only covered in theory at school through projects and the day to day analysis of samples.

Pros: Corporate culture
Cons: No opportunity for promotion

Very good company

Its a Good company with people who have very Good working ethics, its also very recommendable and reputable. There room for growth and promotion, and self empowerment as well.

Excellent place to work, with friendly peaple we are like one big happy family

Daily meeting, inspect the plant then repair what needs to be rapaired for the day, when I encounter any challenges my co-workers are always the to assist, I`ve leaned not to panic or stress when a job looks impossible to do when pressure is high, I enjoy refabishing/repairing equipments. challenging aspect are chemicals , this environment works a lot with chemicals.

Pros: We work flaxible hours
Cons: No chances for promotion

Excellent learning curve

Managing and running payroll for the strength of 25000 employees, reconciling employees salaries/wages e.g. Leave provisions/recons, leave quotas/days, managing time and attendance of the employees through SAP, Saco and Microsoft office.0

Pros: Great oppotunity for exposure
Cons: dealing with difficult employees is not always easy as you find that not all employees are happy with their salaries/wages.
