Challenging yet exciting learning experience

Working at Lurco has taught me to remain focused and not to allow others to derail my focus. The logistics department requires me to always be on standby as we deal with the transportation of coal, this occurs at all hours of the day not only from 9 - 5pm. I have learnt a lot as I have been in 3 different departments within the company, this has taught me the different aspects of the industry. In most instances I am based in the operations which is in Witbank by the mines, I enjoy working with my colleagues and they are very helpful and supportive.

Pros: Wonderful learning experience, opportunity to learn so much from the different departments.
Cons: Working after hours & some weekends.

Excellent insight into the mining industry

Entering a new industry it was a fast learning curve into coal mining and beneficiation. My role covered Corporate Governance, BBBEE, Branding, communication, Corporate Social investment and Human Resources. The challenging aspect of my role was managing within a small business that was underdeveloped in its operations and as an organisation but this allowed me to use my skills and knowledge to add strategic value into the business.
