Hard working, begin with the end in mind
To work at my company starts with a review of the achievements of yesterday, what that means for the actions of today and a plan to manage the expectations of the workshop, upper management, suppliers and the client. Following up with all outstanding items via comms with suppliers, and managing information flow through the company to the correct personnel in the company i.e.: design office or upper management. I have learnt the crux of mechanical engineering and the delicacy of tight tolerances and the need for working according to drawings and most importantly that you can have an item on a drawing, but you need to know how YOU would make it happen, or else the supplier would simply say that you did not specify and hence the final product has to be accepted.
Pros: Great hands on experience with building and commissioning big machines, also running the entire project
Cons: long working hours, no overtime, no travel allowance, no pension, no medical aid, no company phone

Great learning curve
Opportunity to learn mining environment and OEM environment. Managing design and draughting teams was a good experience Opportunity for growth is limited, but moved from workshop manager to projects and now project, design and draughting manager
