Excellent Learning Curve

I performed all HR Generalist functions. The HR component consisted of only two people, viz; My Head/Director & myself. We worked long hours of unpaid overtime on numerous occasions. I cultivated, sustained 7 maintained an excellent working relationship with all my working colleagues. I have learnt the practical aspects, operational efficiencies & implementation techniques for all HR Generalist functions. I enjoy working with my Director the most. The most challenging aspect of the job is the lack of capacity within the HR Unit.

Pros: Learning new operational efficiencies & practical aspects of implmentation pertaining to HR.
Cons: Long Working Hours

Good starting basis for HR in Local Government

The company is managed by an CEO, his exco team and 9 Senior Managers (all on Director level, ito DPSA). The whole organisation also is directed by the Board who has a fulltime Chairperson and 9 members. It is the place for the professional GIS/Town planners, but lacks the direction and opportunities for the supportive personnel like HR and Finance.

Pros: small group
Cons: no development
