It's a tough environment with a European model being applied to an African environment.
Working from home is cool. I have a great relationship with co-workers, we really get on well, a few exceptions being accepted. I do not get on with most of the current and previous line management as they are and were not skilled to fulfil ther function properly. I have grave concerns about the future of construction supervision, being deemed off-strategy by the company. This was our core activity in SA until a year or two back resulting in massive downsizing measures. I can't help but wonder when it will be my turn. I have learned a lot about how not to treat people. The biggest challenge is to stay positive.

Cons: Line Management not adequately skilled to do the job

Excellent communicator
I am a good team player with colleagues and the clients. It is always hard to satisfy the client but the effort and passion for what i do keeps me going all the time. I always strive to learn from others and the work environment and that completes me.

Great opportunity given for me to broaden my skills
Typical day included having meetings with project resources to determine the progress of the project and going through milestones. I’ve learned to work independently, be a team leader and to push our team to deliver work on time. The relationship with colleagues was good as they were very helpful.,having brainstorming sessions and team update calls was my favorite because I got to hear their new innovative ideas.

Worked in systems allows departmentalization and control of the software environment. This company has allowed me to grow and obtain ample experience
I am a Bid Officer for Royal HaskoningDHV’s in South Africa, Cape Town office. Started in water Msunduzi office and recently transferred to the Cape Town office under the same position. I started at BCP Engineers (Amalgamated to SSI Engineers now Royal HaskoningDHV) in 2006 as a Receptionist for 2 years. When BCP amalgamated with SSI Engineers (now Royal HaskoningDHV) in 2008 I took up a position as an assistant to the office administrator for another 2 years. In 2010 I came over to the Water Unit as a secretarial assistant and later furthered my career by pursuing part-time studies.

Flexible and dependable in any situation and able to work accurately with minimal or no supervision
I am responsible for monitoring of construction progress, issuing site instructions and controlling project scope (variation orders). As Lead Engineer I hold weekly team meetings and discuss the scope of work in hand and then distribute the work to the engineers in charge and then set up time frame and the due dates. I do also check as-built drawings and incorporate them in our drawing output. I then prepare project budget estimates for the works. I also have been preparing tender documentation and bill of quantities and Adjudicate tenders and preparing tender recommendation report. I prepare timesheets and claims before giving it to the engineering manager to final authorisation.
