Resilience in the workplace

My typical day at work is one whereby I run between the process plant, laboratory and quality office. I have a good relationship with my co-workers. I have learnt risk-based thinking, quality-orientation, root-cause analysis and the importance of building good relationships. The part I enjoy most about the job is producing quality animal food premixes and writing down instructions for clients on how to use it from a more informed point of view. I enjoy leading the production team during my shift and motivating everyone to be goal-oriented. The most challenging part of my job is when I get queries from clients about products that were produced a long time ago. However, with my traceability skills and systems thinking I always manage to look in the right places for answers to give to clients and ensure their satisfication.

I have learned alot from my manager since i joint the company

• Carbohydrates analysis using UV Spectroscopy, extraction process and reagents preparations. • Metals analysis, e.g. Na, K, Mg, Ca, Fe, Hg and P mention few using AAS technique. I was exposed to both ashing and acid digestion methods. • Titration using auto and manual titration methods to test salts concentration in food samples and TBVN. • ICP to determine heavy metals e.g. Cd, Pb, Hg and in food samples. • DMA operator to determine mercury. • I have experience in LIMS and Quality Management System. Currently at Chemfit-SA Premix(AECI) my daily duties; • Preparing samples for XRF analysis and determining moisture in the sample or raw material. • Lab administration for incoming samples and ordering lab consumables and chemicals. • Weekly report writing to be submitted to the manager.

Pros: The learning opportunities are more and the inhouse workshops for empowering employees.
Cons: Working weekends without being paid overtime thats what i don't like most.
