Attention to detail

My job entails interacting with internal customers and suppliers on spec as well as expediting on delivery. It is very important that I work in synergy with internal staff members and suppliers in order to achieve the best outcome. My Job has taught me how to be more attentive and pay special attention t detail. It has enhanced my interpersonal skills and it has also taught me how to draft accurate and complex documents. What I enjoy the most about my work is the vast exposure that I get exposed to to different product and services. One of the most challenging aspects of my Job is working with difficult personalities and sometimes working with internal customers who are not sure of their exact requirements. However years of experience has taught me how to handle these type of complexities.

Exciting industry

The space industry is fascinating and work at SANSA exposes one to this. It is a young agency with potential to grow and has the potential to have a rather significant impact on the people of South Africa, to address the challenges people face.

Compt: Accounting Science degree with completed articles from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants as at (01/01/2007) and I am a member, of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIASA) and ISACA. I also successfully attained the certification on Performing an Effective Quality Assurance (IIASA) and I am currently registered for the Certified Information Systems Audit (CISA) examination. My present position is Manager: Audit (Head of Division/ Chief Audit Executive) at the South African National Space Agency (Schedule 3A Public Entity) and I have more than 15 (fifteen) years of working experience.

Great Birth Pains

The potential for great and interesting work is there. Sansa is the result of merging of departments from very different organisations, and this merging brings about problems relating to different organisational cultures, and operational procedures. A whole SANSA culture still has to be developed. The enthusiasm for the satellite programme is great, but the implementation of the programme is challenged by issues relating to mistrust and interdepartmental barriers, and a political stance from most of the personnel relating to race quotas. A new CEO has been appointed who has his work cut out for him.

Focus on the projects

The company is basically a Space Agency, and has a fantastic brief from the DST. However, it is underfunded for its brief. Being a new organisation, it still struglles with internal procedures. Being constituted by people from department from other organisations that were merged together, there is still a silo mentality. The personnel are in general well qualified, but are not working together in an efficient way; to get any thing done, particularly from SCM, it takes a lot of effort. The fact that there are one or two projects that are interesting, somewhat aleviates this negative situation, and makes it worth it working at the agency.

Good working enviroment

SANSA is a company where one can learn a lot from, for eg, I work in a supply chain department, in procurement and SANSA is a science and technology company, they are providing information to companies, Data to the weather service and also landscaping, so for me in terms of learning I learn a lot, and it is also fun too, like know we currently in a love week, we buy each other gifts and going to reveal names at end of the week and share the love.

Pros: There is a great appotunity for grouth
Cons: They have no budget to take the interns as permanent
