Scatec Solar Reviews

Great multinational organisation building utility scale PV solar plants in emerging markets

Working at Scatec Solar has brought forward great achievements professionally. The organization allows you to be a change maker and to come up with new ideas for implementation even though you are not a strategic decision maker. Stakeholders included an advisory capacity for both employees and line managers on the full scope of an HR generalist function as well as relationship management with external stakeholders such as recruiters, health insurance, retirement funding and SETA’s. The most enjoyable part of my job was to service the organisations employees and management as a professional HRBP towards the greater goal of the organisation ad a whole. My greatest achievent was winning an award for my 2017 best performance. I am humbled by the values of Scatec Solar and the vision of the company to improve our futures by harnessing the sun to create sustainable green energy for all.

Pros: Culture
Cons: Location

Observations made over the past two years of working at Scatec Solar.

The company has grown tremendously in the past two years since I started working there. Unfortunately not always in a good way. Chasing profits and stakeholder commitments at the cost of the employees is not a sustainable way of doing business. As an engineer working in this company it is extremely frustrating when big project decisions are made by incompetent or inexperienced persons and quality of works and design is neglected in the process all in the name of making a quick buck. Particularly not if these projects need to be financially viable over 20+ years lifespans. There are no growth opportunities for me in the company and there is a massive disconnect between senior management which are all situated in Norway and the teams and individuals executing critical works. Communication in the company is very poor and a "take it or leave it" attitude toward employees makes for a disgruntled workforce.

Pros: Working in an international setting with great exposure to large scale renewable energy projects.
Cons: Poor people management and communication

Great environment to work

I am interested in educational, high-energy technological projects and/or systems including research on energy efficiency and sustainability. With my vast academic, good communication, planning, organizing, strong technical and industrial experiences, I think I will be a great reliever for the position. With my good project management, innovative, negotiation and computer skills I am very ready for any challenge in this role. As a senior professional with a business mind, I will do more in ensuring maximum productivity by establishing and coordinating the company team to support sustained continuous improvement.

Pros: Enjoy working here
Cons: Wish for more trainings

Challanging

It is ok working in my campony, no body realy do what is hire to do we do everything. Typical working day will be the Audits where we are Audited by External people preparations and Audits its self are very hectic days. We work well with the teams which are 2 groups because I spend most of the time in stores or files I get a chance to go and help when there is more work to be done in the field. Communication is a key in our team so we communicate a lot. I have learned that strategicaly planning your work accordingly can help you to get things done in time, and not wait for the deadline to get thins done.

Pros: None
Cons: Long Hours

Excellent Learning Curve

My previous job has the best working culture, the working environment is very healthy and I have always looked forward to going to work. The relationship we had as employees were great and it has been a great feeling to know that you can still count on your colleague for assistance without having to return the favor. What I have learnt and enjoyed the most is the level of teamwork and respect that we had towards each other. The most challenging aspect of the Job was to work long hours and having little time to spend with your family. The only thing I were to change if I was in the management position I were to open more positions for Graduates to gain the working experience in their field of study.

Pros: Opportunity to growth and exposure to the international work ethics
Cons: Long working hours

Ability to have been part of a growing international company

A typical day at the office does not always go according to plan, therefore prioritizing tasks and approaching it has to be done with the right attitude.

Pros: Priviledge of growth within the organisation
Cons: Working hours

Focussed on shareholder value

A company claiming to make a difference in world, viz a viz renewables, is all about profits and nothing more. People are not treated fairly, dismissed if they disagree and the company has no moral responsibility.

Pros: Industry is growing
Cons: Remote controlled from Oslo, no independence

Communication is key.

HSE is very important on our day to day activities on a typical day we work very well under pressure. Running up and down trying to get things done is not easy but we manage. Workers have good relationship working in pares to execute work load and meeting targets. I have learned that prioritizing your work and not taking no for an answer go a long way and do not put yourself under unnecessary pressure. Communication is key.

Pros: Great opportunity for working and learning
Cons: Long hours
